I write book reviews on my website, mainly for indie authors, because I know what it's like to need reviews and for works to be shared and celebrated.
I have written a little sci-fi, but in the horror realm.
Just the practice of putting words together helps!
Thanks for this chat! This is my first time discovering it!
My horror novel BONES OF OUR STARS, BLOOD OF OUR WORLD was recently released by Gallery books, and I’m very proud of this slasher-meets-??? Switcheroo! It is currently on a deep discount at Amazon!

A banner for Hazel E. Baumgartner's "Heliruna: A Horror Novel", which announces the September 18th release date with white text over a green screen dripping with black slime.
Again, weekly reminder that my second novel, "Heliruna", is coming out in September. I also have a new short story I'm working on that will probably be posted much sooner than that.

Thank you, Mary!
Gothic horror, A Fragile Thing is set in 1888 Whitechapel. Fact & fiction combine to set hypnotist Isaac Bercow on a path he cannot escape. Is he in control or is it his benefactor, the mysterious Genesis Caul?

#HorrorWritersChat was great as usual, Mary. I have been doing this group writing thing for The #ShadowBoxArchives, which is in its end phase and will hopefully soon become public on our Patreon. It's called "Death Collectors". Imagine D&D but for writing prompts. Anyway, if you want to support us⬇️

Thanks for another great chat! On the topic of books, check out these books by autistic authors that are available in hoopla. I only picked 1 book per author so a lot of these authors have more titles available that you may be able to read for free courtesy of your local library.

As cool as time travel would be I'd probably end up setting off a cataclysmic chain of events :')
For my WIP I'm doing a ton of research. Learning about common vocabulary, reading about popular alcohol for the time... No detail is too small!
Ummm, research I guess #HorrorWritersChat. The academic in me is hard to kill. I fall easily down the research-rabit-hole (and I love it)
Ooh, I would research. Plus watch movies made during that time - if it's like in the 80s - or reading novels written during that time if it was farther back. I hope they included references that made more sense to them than it does to us because that's a whole vibe.

Research! Research! Research! I wrote FOG OVER MONS, which is set during the Battle of Mons in France during WWI. My husband is a history buff. He helped me with the time period, military practices, uniforms, etc. I researched the battle as well as the Angels of Mons legend.
Q3: #HorrorWritersChat
I write in the past and I always look up slang and the weather. I like grounding my fiction in a believable, verifiable reality.
A short I’ve been polishing is about a weird meteor shower from ages ago.
If it inspired me to write, I want you to be curious, too.
I have a collection of historical non-fiction, and wherever I can, I look up primary sources. That way you get authentic speech, behaviour, e.g. Henry Mayhew's interviews with Victorian costermongers, or Charles Booth's notebooks & poverty map.
Proper research sets atmosphere.
#HorrorWritersChat
Research, #HorrorWritersChat! Not just wikis of information on the time period but I'll try to find letters and personal accounts from that era, specifically from around where I want someone to be. It helps gauge speech patterns and language, which I feel helps a lot to ground the characters.
