With this and Gaussian splatting to do 360 replays realtime visualisations continue to blur the lines between videogame and broadcast.

This one is near and dear. I would read comics in my parent's shop after close, 2000AD especially.
With this being realised in Unreal Engine my professional interests are now intertwined with the wonder of childhood memories being brought to life.

But unfortunately there was the issue that @alyxjones.bsky.social trailer for their game was pulled from the proceedings at short notice, so please do give it a watch and a wishlist now, as it is the sort of game we should champion in the medium.

The post author getting ready to take their seat for the awards show
Wonderful conversations over the dinner and late into the night. This event is always energising in the connection to other creatives and how we are all striving to bring exceptional experiences to players in whatever field of game creation we are involved with.
Now to prepare for the next one.
The post author in a tuxedo on the red carpet
On Friday I got dressed up to attend the #BaftaGameAwards and as usual I forget to take pictures once everything is in full swing.
The awards were fantastic, with a great spread of accolades across the many amazing nominations that kept me guessing at what name was going to be read out.
This is why I love the BAFTAs, there was a real spread to the awards.
Didn't get say hello at the awards, but definitely agree on the plan. The only problem is I have to go out to get crisps.

All ready for the @baftagames.bsky.social awards.
Is it going to be another Expedition 33 sweep?
I thought I was going a little mad, that I was doing something wrong.
Nope, the backlight function in the hair shader has been broken for a decade... #Unreal #GameDev #TechArt

Well, that is my plan for the awards on Friday.
Agreed, I'm having FOMO for not getting to do the nominees shindig this year.

Space Marine scouts in the process of being painted
Space Marine Intercessors in the process of being painted
#WIPWednesday
Into the final stretch with these Scouts and Intercessors. I do have a wonder if I made things more of a faff with the sculpted chapter marking shoulder pads. I do need to get the scouts on to the current 28.5mm bases.

I've needed to dive into the market to find parts for minis that have lost components over the years, and it can sometimes hurt price-wise, even more if I can't really field the mini anymore.
One day, I'll visit my parents and my genestealer patriarch and Screamer-Killer will have been unearthed
I remember when then was a lot of Moon items up on Propstore, which means there are at least a load of nice catalogue shots. I think there was an Adam Savage video of them going over a few of the pieces

Here's to a year bonding with Pinky with a spot of digging
Oh, it is a good day today

The Ensemble is a fantastic initiative to celebrate. Congratulations to all those in this years cohort
Space Marine Scout miniatures in the process of being painted
Space Marine Intercessor painted green for the Dark Angels chapter
#WIPWednesday means continuing to work on the scouts. Highlighting passes on the armour, cloth and leather.
I also got to a happy spot with my Dark Angels armour recipe, which I feel strikes the right balance between results and speed.

If you see this, drop some armour
The relic in its most recent deployment. I've got to strip it back to make it the venerable Deathwing transport.

I have been found. Haven't been this intrigued as to a pinball game since Devil Crush on the Megadrive.
A close up of a metal 2nd edition space marine scout sergeant, with some aeras of detail still showing the undercoat
Five metal 2nd edition space marine scouts held in painting handles sitting on a desk with varying levels of paint applied
#WIPWednesday and I continue to chip away at these 2nd edition Space Marine Scouts. I forgot the challenges of these old minis. So many random details and mould lines.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get any hints as to what we are powerwashing next.
Always a great opportunity to learn and share at these events, and celebrate the successes in the UK games industry. I'm excited to see who will win at the awards soon.
A cosy theme for the second half. @tabbyhanita.bsky.social & Lili Ibrahim talking of interplay of art & design in Monument Valley 3, Luke Finlay-Maxwell in what makes a perfect Two-Point exhibit for the museum, & Kirsty Rigden talking about the changes made for Powerwash Simulator 2.
Split into two sessions, the first focused on player agency in narrative with Ben Fisher discussing the players freedom and the impact on design decisions in Atomfall, and @jumpovertheage.com talking about the dice shaping the player's story in Citizen Sleeper 2.
