U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons Federal Correctional Institution EL Rena OK 73036 April 20, 202G MEMORANDUM FOR ALL EMPLOYEES FROM: SUBJECT: Stoppage of Staff Meals in the South Central Region We are aware of the challenges with Food Service budgets that have impacted both the quality and quantity of inmate meals. Unfortunately, Bureau-wide research has shown staff meals are worsening the budget problems in Food Service. Conservatively, the South Central Region estimated at least $2.3 million worth of meals annually are being taken by staff and not being paid for. That is nearly 1 million meals taken without payment. This is inexcusable and cannot continue. Beginning April 27, 2026, Food Service must no longer provide meals to staff: We will explore options for staff to purchase food, either through the employee clubs or vendors, but cannot continue doing so through Food Service. We understand the importance of our employees sharing a meal together and the camaraderie it brings. Bringing your own lunch and sitting together can still be an option in the staff dining. However, please understand there will be no food or drinks provided by Food Service.
