At the end of day 2 RubyKaigi, I'll share what's coming in RDoc 8.0 (new parser, server mode, and RBS!), and why Ruby documentation has to work for AI too.

I think a great set of rules for moving about the world is
1. Don’t be afraid to ask
2. Don’t be afraid to say yes
3. Look like you will say yes

On 21st April 2026, the Pauaraisa's made history; becoming the first mother-daughter duo to play in an international test match together. Both coming off the bench, daughter Marilyn-Rose scored the final try for Manusina in their 50-5 win over Tonga.

Giles was so generous with his time and so helpful when it came to explaining to journalists very clearly and with quotable precision exactly how a wrong un landlord was being a wrong un. But mostly I just remember thinking he was a really, really kind human who cared about the state of others.
I know you're all enjoying the popcorn drama in the Commons, but you probably should be watching the proposed UK online age gate being debated in the Lords, right now, in ping pong for the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill. Keep your focus, people.

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

As a good heuristic for life, 'is this how I would have approached this activity ten years ago? Because if so, I should consider changing it' is a good way to either save money on things you no longer need and/or enjoy the fruits of your greater success.
'She also documented how few women were in federally sponsored clinical trials for AIDS drugs...
That was significant, she told The San Francisco Chronicle, because “the clinical trials are the only way you can get treatment.”' Long helped save so many lives.
With the new job, I didn't get much time or energy to blog lately, but I figured I'd use the various downtime while traveling to Ruby Kaigi to write about some of the things I worked on recently: byroot.github.io/ruby/perform...

I don't deny that dogs can sometimes be quite lovely but what I will say is I don't trust their opinions. If a cat recommended me an album it had bought, I'd totally check it out. If a dog did the same, I'd promise to listen to the album, out of politeness, with no intention of actually doing so
News I'm hearing from across universities is disastrous. The sector has been falling apart for months, but the process is now continuously speeding up. Outside a small handful of institutions, HE as we've known it has basically zero future.

In Cheltenham where GCHQ used to be (before the famous doughnut) is now a Sainsbury’s. I was once in there with my son (11yo at the time) and told him and he was like, “where? Under the supermarket?” and now I think about the secret spy base inside Sainsbury’s every time I go there.
