You fund our work here. Send $5 to Pivot to AI! It’s the end of the month, and that’s when I ask you to donate to Pivot to AI! At present, Pivot is my income. (Got sysadmin/devops work? Call me!) So your $5 a month — or any other amo…

Sam Altman cries eight deliciously bitter tears for every dollar donated to Pivot to AI. Now, that’s *effective* altruism.

The needle has been moving away from purely hand-authored code for many decades now. That includes code generation, code verification, etc etc.

We've just been using and developing tools that are actually good at this, and that's still a more worthwhile direction than LLMs, which will NEVER be good

Gods I wish Democrats were 1% as cool as Republicans make them out to be.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAA

so this comes ONE DAY after the Anthropic decision that pirating the books you train on is not fair use

and guess what, *all* the LLMs trained on pirated books

1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so.

We failed to learn our lesson from the trolls online and they took over the fucking government.

I think about this a lot.

"The problem, in the worst cases, can make valuable, public resources unavailable to humans because the servers they’re hosted on are being swamped by bots scraping the internet for AI training data."

MASSIVE good news for trans people in the United States.

A federal judge has just granted class action status to transgender people looking to update their passports.

This means that very shorty, the window will open to update your passports with the correct gender marker.

When the AI techbros are finally hauled up on charges and asked if they are guilty, their only options for reply should be "yes" or "maybe later".

We are in the middle of a cold war between people who want to engage, want to think, want to solve problems and comprehend the solutions on one side, and those who resent having to learn or think or understand on the other.

AI, politics, business, education -- all fronts in the same war.

This Pride month, don’t forget about the trans and gnc activists who made this happen. People like Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson, whose leadership at Stonewall has now been stricken from all government websites by a Trump administration that wants us erased from history.

If we had to have a ketamine-addicted celebrity advising the federal government, I’d have preferred to have Matthew Perry.
