The imprint is a partnership with Carlson's media company, which has a revenue sharing agreement with the publisher, according to the WSJ. Carlson and his business partner Neil Patel "also launched a precious metals company and a nicotine pouch company." The first list will include Russell Brand’s How To Become a Christian In Seven Days, Milo Yiannopoulos’ Ex Gay, and Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong's Killing Cancer. Brand's literary agent and previous UK publisher, Bluebird Books dropped the author due to sexual assault allegations. Brand faces rape and sexual assault charges, which he has denied, in the UK. Simon & Schuster canceled a book by Yiannopoulos in 2017 after a video surfaced in which he seemed to express approval for grown men having sex with underage boys; Yiannopoulos eventually self-published.

idk guys when i see a lot of similar headlines insisting that editors & authors are all already embracing AI, i don't assume these things are true. i assume there are a lot of very rich people with an unpopular product pushing a particular narrative in my industry!

It’s not even April and yet we’re having our 3rd layoffs and restructuring from a Big 5. Six colleagues including editors who acquired books by BIPOC and queer creators have been let go. When is it going to stop? And how can publishers be so short-sighted?

everything is either a "maybe" or a full i have yet to read, so i think i'm definitely on track for an inbox 0 in april YAY

sometimes i wonder is unmasking/being more like myself includes how i try to come across on video meetings

something about trying to stay still with adhd and fidgeting constantly and also remembering to look like i'm paying attention is just HARD bc i promise i'm paying attention i just don't need to look at the camera/video to do so!!

ngl as a person who already didn't love meetings pre-pandemic, i especially don't like remote meetings on video/voice chat post-pandemic. if we must talk, i shall do it, but i had a series of months early on as an agent where i was accepting TOO MANY MEETINGS and i was beyond drained

what does that mean?

- queries + full requests will be done (at this rate) sometime in april
- client edits will be down to 1 project by the first week of april
- i did say i wanted to reopen gen queries for a two-week period in either april or may. i'm thinking may is more realistic!

what's realistic in terms of a march 31st deadline?

- i can definitely make some decisions around the queries
- full requests need a bit more time for me to read and consider properly
- meetings are split between editors, agency staff, and other things
- 2 edits are for pbs so i can get those done

only a handful of days left til the end of march so let's take a quick stock of where i wanted to be and where i'm at:

i wanted to have responses to all full reqs by the 31st

currently:
- 54 undecided queries
- 14 full requests
- many meetings in calendar for april
- 3 clients waiting for edits

so far today i have...

1) gotten back on track with querymanager
2) sent a handful of rejections (sorry TT__TT)
3) sent 3 (THREE!) meeting requests
4) am already tired of meetings gg

i actually have a super fun different reproductive issue called PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). luckily i've never had a cyst, but the main "treatment" is birth control, which is the same with endometriosis. i'd love a world where these conditions are treated/researched more seriously!

i don't personally have endo or adenomyosis, but i know friends who do. flare-ups are the worst, and cancelled plans/missed days of work are just the tip of the iceberg. i hope this petition can enact positive change around classifying these diseases and helping the people who suffer from them.

this is a petition to officially view endometriosis and adenomyosis as disabilities under Canadian law

agents get bombarded with queries, so yours could be one of 200 or 600 or over 1000... u get the idea. there's a lot. unless an agent explicitly states an amount of time for when you can consider your query officially rejected without notice, they're gonna get to it.

once again: if you're pulling your query from an agent's inbox bc it's been longer than 2-3 months, you won't survive actual submissions. be patient.

some notes:
