‘Excessive’ financial risks threaten survival of many English universities, report warns High levels of borrowing and rapid expansion among dangers identified by Higher Education Policy Institute

'The report … urges the government to introduce new measures to curb “the most damaging behaviours”.' Or, instead of only blaming the universities, how about making sure they are properly funded? Other Western European countries have little difficulty with this.

Sign the Petition Urge University of Cambridge to Correct Decision on Plant-Based Catering

I don't generally share petitions, but this one here is really worth signing. In short, Cambridge University’s planned transition to sustainable plant-based menus may be blocked due to a flawed analysis of data from a successful trial.

Their reasoning on the second ground is not compelling either. Here, they argue that the slogan does not 'clearly' characterise a milk-free product. But any dictionary makes clear that 'post‘ means ‘after‘. In other words, the judges are saying that ‘post‘ does not clearly mean ‘post'.

Oatly banned from using word ‘milk’ to market plant-based products in UK Swedish company claims ruling is anti-competitive and ‘solely benefits Big Dairy’

Having read the Supreme Court‘s decision, I find it poorly argued. According to the judges‘ impeccable logic, only dairy companies can legally use Oatly‘s 'POST MILK GENERATION‘ slogan. I struggle to see how this creates fair competition and protects consumers...

The conversation covers among other things the leading work of @nonhumanrights.bsky.social to have animals such as Happy the elephant recognised as legal persons with certain fundamental rights.
