Fantastic podcast narrated by our Centre‘s very own Carly McCann and written by Co-Director Sean Butler.

Only JD would look at the current situation and think: "Let's lean more into the anti-Pope thing!"

Incumbents JD might like to consider endorsing next: Netanyahu, Lukaschenko, Putin…
'The report … urges the government to introduce new measures to curb “the most damaging behaviours”.' Or, instead of only blaming the universities, how about making sure they are properly funded? Other Western European countries have little difficulty with this.

An excellent (and rare!) postdoc opportunity for people working on animals.
I am very much looking forward to talking to the brilliant @dorfonlaw.bsky.social next week in the Talking Animals series. Don‘t miss this free event!
Can‘t wait to read @casssunstein.bsky.social‘s first book-length treatment of animal rights. Highly anticipated!
... @davidgunkel.bsky.social (Northern Illinois University), as well as John (QMUL) and myself (@cambridgelaw.bsky.social).
The book features contributions by Patricia Wiater (@fau.de), @visakurki.bsky.social (@helsinki.fi), Macarena Montes Franceschini (@harvard.edu), @jeffsebo.bsky.social (NYU), Malgosia Fitzmaurice (QMUL), Elien Verniers (Ghent), @evabernetkempers.bsky.social (@uantwerpen.be), ...
Delighted to have received the first copies of my new book (co-edited with John Olusegun Adenitire) on fundamental rights for non-humans - covering animal rights, rights of nature, and AI rights. Many thanks to the wonderful team @hartpublishing.bsky.social and our excellent contributors!
I don't generally share petitions, but this one here is really worth signing. In short, Cambridge University’s planned transition to sustainable plant-based menus may be blocked due to a flawed analysis of data from a successful trial.

Their reasoning on the second ground is not compelling either. Here, they argue that the slogan does not 'clearly' characterise a milk-free product. But any dictionary makes clear that 'post‘ means ‘after‘. In other words, the judges are saying that ‘post‘ does not clearly mean ‘post'.

Having read the Supreme Court‘s decision, I find it poorly argued. According to the judges‘ impeccable logic, only dairy companies can legally use Oatly‘s 'POST MILK GENERATION‘ slogan. I struggle to see how this creates fair competition and protects consumers...

Very much looking forward to hosting the fabulous Angela Fernandez (@utoronto.ca) in the Talking Animals series next week. Angela is currently a Visiting Fellow at our Centre @animalrightslaw.bsky.social.
If only animals could communicate.
The conversation covers among other things the leading work of @nonhumanrights.bsky.social to have animals such as Happy the elephant recognised as legal persons with certain fundamental rights.

Many thanks to @cam.ac.uk, @cambridgelaw.bsky.social, and my brilliant student Rowan for turning the spotlight on animal rights law. Really enjoyed the conversation and grateful for the opportunity to share @animalrightslaw.bsky.social's work with a wider audience.

Quite!
Very much looking forward to talking to Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka today about their new @oxfordunipress.bsky.social book 'Animals and the Right to Politics'.
Perhaps the government might consider funding universities instead of using them as marketing tools.
