My one overriding impression of the BBC Scotland Leaders Debate is how much poorer the overall quality of leaders in Scotland now are compared to the previous decade.

Had a lovely weekend with the family. Feeling so much better as a result.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me over the last few weeks. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support you have shown me, and I am forever grateful.

Back to work tomorrow.

It's baffling to me how few politicians understand basic issues around international trade.

The Iran War ‘ceasefire’ won’t change problems caused by combat around the Strait of Hormuz.

Insurance costs for shipping alone are prohibitively expensive. That won’t change any time soon.

Screensgrabbed text reading:

It has already been shown, by authorities including the UK Energy Research Centre, that new drilling would not reduce oil and gas prices, or improve the UK’s energy security. It is also unlikely to produce durable jobs or major new tax revenues, as 90% of the UK’s North Sea oil and gas has already been burned, putting the industry in steep and irrecoverable decline. Companies are also demanding tax breaks to tap the new fields, which are harder to access than existing supplies.

It is with great sadness that I must confirm that I will no longer be the Scottish Green Party’s lead candidate in the North East Scotland region for the Scottish Parliament elections which will take place on the 7th May 2026. This is because I will no longer hold ‘Approved Candidate’ status by the time nominations close on the 1st April 2026.

The co-convenors of the party’s Standing Orders Committee (SOC) requested I be re-vetted due to an unresolved complaint against me. This process has not concluded, and I had argued that this action would be both prejudicial to the outcome of the complaints process and unconstitutional. These arguments, and my right to appeal the constitutional interpretation of the co-convenors to a full meeting of SOC, were ignored.

After a two-year long campaign of bullying, lies, rumour, and smears designed to stop my candidacy, those who participated in this campaign have been successful. Others have also suffered from this behaviour. I stand in solidarity with you. I cannot say anything further due to the need to keep confidentiality while complaints are investigated. However, it is clear to me that the system has been abused. Significant reform is needed to restore members’ faith in the complaints process.

I know many members in our region may be angry and disappointed at being disenfranchised in this way. Our internal democracy has been undermined. As the first person in our party’s history to beat an incumbent MSP in a selection contest, I feel the same way. The party has let you and I down.

However, we must remain focused on holding the powerful to account. We can and must build the country we know Scotland can be. This can be done through other means than just electoral politics. I will remain with you in that fight now and into the future.

Thank you to all members who voted for me to be your lead candidate and to those who have stood by me across Scotland. I will be forever grateful for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Guy

There is no decarbonised future without a real just transition for oil and gas workers.

Tell your friends.

This contribution by Jamie to Parliament was very welcome.

A lot rides on what on our next Parliament will look like. Who we elect matters.

We all have a responsibility to make the right choice.

Malcolm Offord's sick homophobic 'joke' speaks volumes about his character Daily Record Political Editor Paul Hutcheon says Reform UK are the new nasty party after the demise of the Tories.

Opinion: Malcolm Offord's sick homophobic 'joke' speaks volumes about his character.

"It says a lot that after a few drinks he decided to punch down on a minority group and mock George Michael’s grieving partner."

chart showing Unadjusted earnings gap 10 years after graduation, associated with having been in deep poverty at age 16, for all graduates and by demographic group: England

Graduates who grew up in deep poverty face a large pay gap 10 years into their careers.

They earn 13 per cent less than graduates who did not grow up in poverty – equivalent to over £7,590 a year, and larger than the gender pay gap in the UK ⤵️ buff.ly/5VfX2Fi

I was speaking with some posties last weekend and they told me the very same thing.

Privatisation of essential public services doesn’t work.

Bloody hell. From secretly-funded lobby groups masquerading as ‘think tanks’ (who continue to dominate our discourse despite Liz Truss demonstrating the dangers) to a secretly-funded political party. Should have seen that coming.

After a difficult week, I am attending the funeral of an old friend and colleague of mine today, Lorna.

She had a wicked sense of humour and an infectious laugh. We will all sorely miss her.

🚨 ALERT: Hunger in Scotland isn’t a food problem - it’s an income problem.

When incomes don’t cover essentials, food banks become lifelines.

BUT no one should have to rely on them to survive.

A review into workplace culture at the Scottish Parliament has uncovered dozens of previously unreported incidents of bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct

Scottish Parliament staff report 84 cases of bullying and harassment in five years A Holyrood review found 45 reports of bullying, 25 of harassment and 14 of sexual harassment since 2021.

Unfortunately, I am very aware of the issues staff face working in Holyrood.

There is a "two-tier culture" and an emphasis placed on protecting MSPs in the name of protecting the party, all parties.

Power imbalances need to be addressed and staff protected.

The decline of common decency, fairness, and justice in our politics is sad to see.

However, if we come together, we can fight it and build something better.
