Wouldn't that be somethin'.

Its not like they could get enough people in the administration or Congress or anywhere to call it anyway!
This is "Death of Stalin" level shit.
Outlive the dictator and outlast your opponents in the administration.
They may hate him, but they're not going against him. Look at the consequences!
This is todays lesson in my favorite recurring segment, "Better Know Your Insults".
These people keep handing this man their wallet, and their vote, while he shits on everything they pretend to hold dear.
Its fucking pathetic.
Because in the end, Trump sees everyone that's not as rich or as white as he is the same as he sees Haitian immigrants...as animals who eat pets.
/end
People my age all thought the end would come in a bright flash, or maybe a ground invasion that we could rise up against (WOLVERINES!!!!)...
But no.
The end will come thanks to an idiotic wannabe elected by people dumb and racist enough to not realize what he really thinks of them.

What would China do with that effective monopoly?
The same thing US Billionaires have been doing to American citizens for 60 years...extract as much wealth as possible, but not so much at once that it hurts all the time.
Slowly pick the pocket of Americans.
Doesn't that sound like FUN!?!

In fact, a ton of computer stuff comes from Taiwan, including motherboards, GPU's, and more.
For China to effectively "own" that capacity, would make them the only real place to get a lot of this stuff.
You know what that means? Yes, China would have an effective monopoly.

Nvidia, the company that makes the AI chips is also about 7% of the #S&P500, so that won't be good for #Broligarch portfolios, or anyone's retirement accounts.
But wait, there's more!
A ton of computer RAM also gets assembled in Taiwan, so you can move that off the chess board as well.

This will be of interest to all the #Broligarchs who financed Trump's election, & are currently building AI mega-pollution stations, as the chips they're using are made in Taiwan.
China is also sanctioned from owning these chips.
So owning Taiwan would, obviously, solve that problem for them.

While Trump has your attention on Iran and Israel, and inflation and fuel prices spike, China has been planning an amphibious landing on the island of Taiwan.
The administration that can neither walk, nor chew gum, also can't walk AND chew gum.
No surprises there...

Anyway, I'm done being cranky on your replies. And sorry for the threaded reply.
I've never told a short story in my life.
Cheers!
But what happens in the south is, because so many people are like ACTUAL CRAZY RIGHTWINGERS, even the "moderate" people end up LEANING right because in the grand scale of left to right in their social ecosystem, they seem "moderate" which is a moniker journalists love, but is meaningless.

But most of the people I work with and know casually who are also GenX have no coherent ideology.
It's a mix of emotional herky-jerky, and need based financial stuff, mixed in with the foulness of sudden aches and pains that come with being not quite old people.

I'm one of the most liberal people I know, but even I find myself falling victim to some of the schemes that conservatives use to appeal to cranky late stage middle-agers.
There's just a lot.
I've never voted for a GOP candidate and never will. But at 54, I feel the crankiness setting in.

Then , there was a distinct rightward shift across the south between 1994-2010.
This was less a change in ideology than a change in identification. It tracks all over the south as "Southern Democrats" disappeared.
Then there's all the stuff that comes with being in your late 40's and 50's.
3/
Its important to remember that while many GenX in the south may have voted Democratic at one point. They weren't liberal. They were southern Democrats.
That was a whole different breed of Democrats.
Joe Manchin may have been the last Trad "Southern Democrat" in the Senate.

Would regionalized age based demographics be more insightful?
For instance, have coastal GenXers shifted right as much as Southeastern GenXers?
I could write a lot about this as a GenXer from the south...
So I will.

my beef with the "just asking questions" journalists out there is like, hey, your job is to do that *and* try to get the answers. you don't just skip the second part.
Human beings simply did not evolve to live in an environment where every new piece of information is the stupidest fucking thing you've ever heard in your life
I'm not sure what that is behind him that's making his hair look more like #Grandpa from the #Munsters, but I'm here for it.
Greatest. Correction. Ever.
No. Range anxiety is the “size matters” of car stuff for the radical centrists who make their $$$ concern trolling literally everything.
From 1995 to the day after the 224 election @npr.org was my primary news source.
But on that day in 2024, I turned it off. The false equivalence they continually push was too much.
Life without it has been just fine.
I still support my local station, but aside from select shows, I just can’t.
I welcome our unicorn riding elven overlords.
Still not far enough from Earth to avoid the stench of it's unmitigated stupidity fouling the galaxy.
But remember, anything less than mass deportation is an open border policy...soooo.
MBS lauds Trump for taking a bone saw to any shred of US credibility.
They won't replace him even after he nukes the middle east.
This is what they've wanted for a long time...a way to the end times.
I fear this is true.
If it does happen, I hope all you rich fuckers enjoyed those tax breaks you won’t need when we’re all dead.
