Hellish exhaustive fibro-day so really short today. Apologies darlings <3 Buns and Aurora sit on top of icecream cones, dressed in their respective icecream colours which are vanilla glams! I don’t usually write in my personal diary unless I’m... experiencing something significant. But somewhere deep inside, I felt the need to pen this down so I’ll never forget it. Normally, I keep my interactions with my research subjects strictly professional, but it is becoming difficult not to "feel" things around Rulnazel. For the longest time, I was the one in charge. I was the one who took care of my sick mother and my siblings; my father left us when I was little, so I have no desire to speak to him ever again. After Mother passed and my siblings moved on to live their own lives, I was finally able to pursue the education she always wanted for me. I figured being educated would lead to a happier life, but sometimes it just leaves me feeling empty. Do I resent my family for leaving me to feel this way? Maybe. I don't really know. Being with Rulnazel made me realize that I missed out on what most families consider a "normal" upbringing. She doesn’t have to do it, yet she is the one who feeds me when I’m hungry, pulls me out of the sun when I overheat, or scolds me into going to sleep when it’s late. These are the things I have spent my entire life nagging others to do. It feels almost childish of me to notice, but she has a warmth that goes far beyond her elemental powers. One night, she opened up about her past—or rather, she went into detail about how she became an elementalist. She was suffering from what I would call "having an empty nest" and was told the only way to heal was to find meaning for herself. Based on the things she says, we really do have so much in common. We are both grieving parts of ourselves that we've lost. I think... when this is all over and I finally graduate, I’ll come and visit her as often as I can.
