Usually, but not always, a game that is free to start playing but is quite expensive if you get heavily invested in it

To me, it’s a game where they are continually adding in content that costs money and expanding the game at a regular pace. For example, League of Legends with new paid for characters and skins, or Destiny 2 with battle passes and so forth, or any of the huge number of gacha games out there.

I have so many fond memories of this from lan parties as a teen! This and Total Annihilation have always been my favorites for how varied the gameplay and strategies can be, without needing intense micro
