Tonight is the anniversary of Titanic’s unfortunate encounter with an iceberg. Catholic victims are buried just across the street so I went over for a short visit

I liked the look of a housing development along the river in Porto, Portugal. Also the traditional built form.

This morning we visited the Palatine Chapel in the Palácio Nacional de Sintra ( bits date back to to the 14th century). This evening in Lisbon we saw some very contemporary trash art by Bordello II.

I suspect there was a list of who was seen. The feeders were most visible from the stairwell so observations were casual.

In the 1990s (before feeding birds became sketchy) we built this swell structure by the entrance to the @mnhnovascotia.bsky.social . It was to demonstrate various styles of commercial and homemade bird feeders. We thought it looked sort of Italian.

“From Greenland’s Icy Mountains” the 1819 missionary hymn feels relevant.

Last summer I saved some woody roots of kale plants. Yesterday I made them into miniature "trees." They look a bit scary and reminded me of the disturbing 1894 painting "Evil Mothers" by Giovaqnni Segantini.

It’s the anniversary of the 1917 Halifax Explosion. A still and somber morning to visit sites in my neighborhood: a fragment of anchor shank from Mont Blanc, the grave of telegraph operator Vince Coleman, and the field where unidentified dead were buried.
