☢️🔬 To make tissue structures of biological samples visible under the electron microscope, they are treated with a straining agent: uranyl acetate, which is highly toxic and radioactive. A research team from TU Graz has now found an alternative: ordinary espresso. 😀

Just a few days after the crime – that is usually how long signs of strangulation can be detected. But research by @claudialenz.bsky.social shows that this timeframe needs to be reconsidered: internal injuries can be detected with MRI for much longer than previously thought – up to 12 days.
Published in the current issue of Radiology accompanied by an editorial highlighting its clinical relevance: Christina Graf’s new paradigm of RF pulse design applied to T2-weighted FLAIR. We’ll build on this and translate the new pulse paradigm to other MRI sequences.

It was a great experience and fun to give a talk on Can we measure extreme brain iron content with Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping? at #ECR2025 in Vienna! I am grateful to share my research and connect with colleagues passionate about advancing neuroimaging. #PlanetRadiology #MRI #BrainHealth
Thanks to the #schrödingerstipendium, I had the incredible opportunity to gain valuable experience at the #UBC (@rauschermri.bsky.social), to broaden my perspectives, and to expand my scientific network. It was truly a stepping stone for my career, and I am grateful for this unique opportunity!
