straight up the biggest thing to happen to the western keroro world in the last decade and now they have the movies...

i wonder what a "localized" version of this stuff would even entail. would we get a new dub cast? manga reprints? what the hell could be going on at bandai HQ right now...

i've always felt that way ever since i first came across it. something about it is so wholly unique that i was shocked it didn't attract a more dedicated english speaking fanbase--the years of false starts and unfortunately executed dub stuff did it no favors

But not everything needs that kind of deep psychoanalysis. Some people just really like watching the funny frog alien epic fail compilation. It'll be really interesting to see how, and if, this renewed push can create new fans here, and what about it can resonate with people.

I think "Sonic Fans" or "SEGA fans" or whatever they want to designate themselves with any given day are sorta drawn to the aesthetic of SEGA as a "punk" thing, something against the grain of the status quo. Keroro could appeal to that since it revels in subverting tropes for comedy

Mine Yoshizaki is definitely a big SEGA nerd so there's definitely crossover. I could classify myself as part of that. But I've personally never really seen too much overlap. Maybe my horizons are small but it seems that there just aren't a lot of us out there at least in the western space.

what i think speaks to this movie's prescience is that it was a script developing for years, filmed in 2024, before the election and yet feels like a meteor crash landing in our present time

this and sinners are an amazing double bill though, two of the strongest original films in a long time with so much to say. we are at least fortunate to have had them in what was otherwise a pretty miserable year last year

i think its earnest look at the "good" and "evil" at the heart of american society is very prescient. it doesn't have any easy answers and i think that's to its benefit

out of the two major best picture contenders this year this one is my favorite. not without issues (one of my big problems is that they should have made another kid squeal instead of the NB--puts a bad taste in the mouth) but otherwise it's a really cathartic vision of modern america
