She was the 9th of 12 children. She knew the lot of women in 1926 Ireland

New favourite person found.
On the 1926 census Alice Knox recorded herself as ‘single (thank god)’ and detailed that she was 48 instead of the truth which was that she was 60.

I just know she was class craic

Antisemitism is rising and dangerous and it feels like someone is going to be seriously harmed imminently which is horrific an anyone saying it’s not, or minimising it is going bad things with their voice and time

“Ah they’re used to it there, it’s only them” is the response of most, probably the majority of people reading this if you ever stumbled across the scant coverage of these incidents, if you are honest with yourselves. As if we aren’t real people with thoughts, feelings, fears and you know; humanity

This is rightly headline news.
But it’s stark to me how dehumanised we are here.
Since East Belfast GAAs inception in 2020, there have been 3 confirmed bomb threats, with multiple additional threats and alerts reported over several years - and it’s a shrug/silence from the rest of Ireland & GB

Chatting to a cyclist the other day when I was out walking, he showed me how his Brompton bike worked and I have been daydreaming about one ever since. Precision Engineering is so bloody cool

Health visitors call for limits on 'impossible' 1,000-family caseloads BBC analysis shows the number of health visitors in England has almost halved in the last 10 years.

When my kids were little there were twice as many health visitors and loads of drop in sessions. I had a ton of help with feeding/reflux/weaning with no 1. With no 2 they helped me access speech therapy. Early support is really vital. (no 3 was born ready for anything). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Not to sound like Roy Keane but the Pope is doing the basics of his job. He just stands out because of the weak as piss standard of leadership of most of the rest of the allies

Paying to simulate having heartburn. Always amazed seeing people do it - rarer sight now. Awful stuff

Recent BBC articles highlight misconduct by a small number of unscrupulous advisers who charge thousands to fabricate asylum claims. This is fraud & must be stopped. But the coverage is selective, harmful & risks obscuring the wider reality of access to legal advice. 🧵

Yes but it’s invaluable work to ‘get in’ via the non traditional training route - of proving yourself. The work may not have been instructive in terms of knowledge building but from a hiring point of view, failure to do this work well illustrated a lot & was considered when offering associate posts

Exactly- even when I was more senior my job reviewing the reports about the easy work produced by the trainees, was a nice relief from the very hard pressurised work I was doing most of the time. I couldn’t work on that sort of work non stop without any change in pace and intensity

Maybe embracing AI should also mean ensuring that young people still have a chance at the career they want.

AI has all but shut down the routes to proving yourself via grunt work in so many industries. All the best juniors I trained came in via that way. They didn’t have the social connections or money to position themselves for the success they proved more than capable of, AI is gutting social mobility

As a former corporate lawyer who shoe horned my way into a big firm in Sydney by taking a job as a PA, asking to work on discovery, proving myself worthy of the firm paying for cross qualification to work there - AI has totally shut that route down. AI needs mitigating before embracing

#C4News last night reported on the wholesale targeting of ambulances & paramedics in Lebanon by Israel, including the recent 'triple hit', when Israel attacked an ambulance, then attacked paramedics who went to help, and then attacked further paramedics also trying to help.

Every reporter has a duty to scrutinise shadowy figures behind annonymous accounts who are deathly afraid of revealing themselves, but at the same time fancy themselves as sources of news, speculate & lie & misinform. It shouldn't matter whether that account has bothered us personally or not.

"We must not give an inch of space or a second of airtime to the far right... except on this one issue" is an attitude cropping up in response to an increasing number of events. Not great!

Nothing is more relatable about Pope Leo than the fact that he is quite dead on, empathetic and sensible, but has a brother that is MAGA.

The EU's principle is that fines must be proportionate and dissuasive. In other words, always enough to make you think twice about doing it again. This one will be... large.
