This is a great pic by Michael MacSweeney of Cork's Provision agency of the #FuelProtests at Whitegate - could be detail from a Renaissance battle/riot scene

The thing that makes me angry about these protests is that for Repeal, we had to go out and knock on doors and be polite to people who thought we were the devil for months and these guys can just dump a tractor in the street and get what they want in five days.

The fuel blockades are reason number 1 million we need to move away from fossil fuels and export focused agriculture

I really do believe this is true. I'm sure that not everybody who turned up to protest has fascist leanings, but if you pulled your truck up next to one that said "Ireland for the Irish" and you don't leave, are you better than the owner of that truck?

On different groups online the idea of blockading Dublin or ports has been pushed for literal years. the idea that this is a spontaneous escalation seems to have taken root as opposed to it being opportunistically actioned cause of the fuel price

Eddie Hobbs stole my biro in 2006 when I was working for a design agency that he had business with. He is not to be trusted.

A group of Muslim women who feed Dublin's homeless week in, week out, attacked by fuel protestors. I think we see who they are now.

I reckon we see here the difference between a left protest (intended to raise standards of living for all) and a right protest (intended to make gains specifically for the protestors & nobody else).

I'm one of those trans women. I worked ground ops for Artemis I.

I am torn between celebrating the success of my friends and peers and grieving how my dream of working for NASA was shattered by hateful assholes in Tallahassee

Fire and ambulance services to be curtailed due to fuel shortages caused by protests Meanwhile, Micheál Martin has said Ireland may is on the precipice of “turning oil away” because of the blockades.

Why, why is the government allowing this to happen? Last year they arrested and terrorized people who held a Gaza protest outside Leinster House. But now nothing.

Is this how we make economics sustainable? As part of a series on current economic thinking, Richard Murphy outlines Kate Raworth’s argument for a sustainable economic model

Doughnut Economics says: feed everyone, protect the planet, stay in balance.

Prof Richard Murphy asks – why is our system built for endless growth?

Not the first or the last to make this point, but the protests really lay bare who is considered a “worker” by many people. Lads who run plant hire companies ✅, but Deliveroo drivers and women doing the admin in offices are the liberal elite

I can distinctly remember getting into Carlos in the late 1980s, when I was learning about electronic music. I mentioned to a friend that I got a couple of albums by Walter Carlos at the library and he said "oh it's Wendy Carlos now". I said "oh okay" and *literally never thought about it again*

Luddites were not opposed to the use of machines per se (many were skilled operators in the textile industry); they attacked manufacturers who were trying to circumvent standard labour practices of the time.

Also, the Luddites were the good guys, and they were right to do what they did, even if they lost in the long run - it was a loss for us all.

2/2 ...they can avoid talking about trans people and immigrants off the bat or indeed, burning DP centres or protesting at public libraraies.

A genuine protest group would do 1 day and then go home to their homes and the businesses they say are suffering.

Who is funding the fuel protest's online campaign? Political mobilisation does not scale "spontaneously", and, once that fire is lit, there is no controlling what it burns.

The paid ads promoting the #IrishFuelProtests blocking Irish ports and streets are being funded by a tow truck company

At least the one we could find is; we can't know who else is putting money behind this because Meta "banned" ie. hides, political ads

It’s also important to note that it was NEVER a genuine protest about the cost of living, people need to get past that idea. It was always the far-right and it’s only the far right. They’re using people’s real concerns as cover and the govt are letting them.

Fuel price protests causing second day of disruption There are delays to public transport in Dublin city and fuel depots in Galway and Limerick have been blocked as fuel price protests cause a second day of disruption around the country.

I absolutely loathe these people. Not just cos they’re infiltrated by the far-right and conspiracy theorists, but also because they only ever show up for their own narrow self-interest. When have they ever shown solidarity with literally any group in society other than themselves?
