Watched the third episode of The Amazing Digital Circus and I can see why this is where people click with the show.

I will continue to watch (if I remember to for my walks) but I still think it’s not quite my thing? It’s well-animated and the concept is neat but I’ll admit it’s not grabbing me!

I AM going to make a patch that’s “I swing both ways. Violently. With a sword.” that’s simpler than the one I’m currently embroidering because I can’t monitor this machine for an hour and a half every time, it’s a huge pain in the ass

I’d like to get a bigger machine so I can make larger plushies; the biggest size I can make right now is 4x4".

I might start raising money for that in the coming year.

The biggest downside is that the easy programs for digitizing (converting art into things you can embroider) cost like $2000, which is more than the machine, especially if you get a little one like mine.

I’m getting better with InkStitch, which is free, but it doesn’t have the same functionality.

Would I recommend getting an embroidery machine as a hobby? If you don’t mind an EVEN MORE FIDDLY printer (with cheaper ink but you have to change it really often), then hell yes. If you are more Office Space towards printers, than no.

I’ve got enough engineering background to enjoy the fiddliness.

The thing about the embroidery machine is that a lot of the time it’s just waiting for the machine, but sometimes it’s a ton of thread changes (which involve me monitoring the machine for tension issues, etc, after each change). This one’s gonna be both, once we get past the big 36 minute background
