Tried to get my kid to watch this - offered Rawhead Rex or Halloween III as alternatives
I’m in - Nine minutes late but I’m in - Slainté
Every so often a film comes along that surprises me or strikes me as brilliant, original, or just plain masterful in one way or another. I just saw one: “The Coffee Table” by Caye Casas. Be careful, it’s a punch in the gut - horrifying, hilarious, and harrowing.
Congratulations to all the Oscar winners, and a special shout out to the incredible Colman Domingo, an artist of the highest caliber. If you were any more real, baby, you’d be fiction.
Vance attempts to lecture Europe on how to properly run an authoritarian government. Fails miserably.
⚡️'No point trying to negotiate' with Putin, Yulia Navalnaya says.
"Even if you decided to negotiate with Putin, just remember he will lie," Navalnaya, widow of late Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, said at the Munich Security Conference two days before the anniversary of her husband's death.
“Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is not democracy.”
This song matches my mood today. But tomorrow I’ll be alright. I have no intention of letting these people steal my joy. Goodnight, friends - nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Great advice from a great organization I’m proud to support
Beautiful writing - and spot on.
"Even as I have witnessed the poltroonish capitulation of our political leaders, our robber barons, our media figureheads, even our Snoop Doggs, I have faith that we will somehow find a better way, that we will repulse this ugly MAGA incursion."
This is Yuriy Kerpatenko - he was a conductor who led the Kherson Philharmonic Orchestra. He was murdered by Russian soldiers for refusing to participate in a “victory” concert when his city was invaded and occupied. When I despair about the next 4 years, his courage lends me strength. Arts matter.
I have bought probably 30 copies of this to send to my friends - I genuinely believe it to be one of the most brilliant and important pieces of art composed in the last couple of decades. For my money, it brings the grounding and optimism we need now. And it was shot by the great Spike Lee!
Midnight O-one on January 20. Thank the gods I have been spared taking part in this travesty on account of the weather. Today I highlight the work of a truly amazing artist. This is a piece of work that earns the status of masterpiece in my book. Check it out.

Consider these organizations among many sure to be under fire in the next four years:
ACLU - American Civil Liberties Union
HRC - Human Rights Campaign
FFRF - Freedom from Religion Foundation
ACF - Anti-Corruption Foundation
Agreed, and some good thoughts in this art from Thom. As for me, I’m increasing involvement (and monetary contributions) to the groups listed below. Also focusing on making music and cultivating friendships and community.
I hope I live to see Yulia Navalnya as president of a free and prosperous Russia. This family and this organization are truly inspiring - it sickens me that as they struggle, we here in America are blithely skipping toward Putin-esque kleptocracy. Absolute madness
We need positive forms of political opposition in the United States. The People's Cabinet would offer new ideas, new voices, and new forms of action.

…is a testament to the determination of idealists dedicated to making society better for all. It’s a long, continuous fight, and the side of right is on the back foot for now. All the more reason to dig in and resist apathy and complacency. History will judge us by our actions.
I think it helps to remind ourselves that this is part of a historical pattern. People with wealth and power have always strived to maintain it, and the rest of us have had to struggle and scrap for a place at the table. That any progress at all has been made in the last thousand or so years…
Pontypool is another good one to add to this list
Hello, new here. It’s heartening to see so many advocates, allies, and activists on this site. Like many, I was shaken by the results of the election, but I’m ready to get back in it. I figure I can bemoan the circumstances, or be grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. Count me in.
