Light of the setting sun shining through the arches of the old aqueduct in Montpellier, France.

Light of the setting sun shining through the arches of the old aqueduct in Montpellier, France.

The other day I caught this shot of the setting sun illuminating the old aqueduct. One of the many beauties of daily life in Montpellier... and I still find it funny the word STOP is often used in France. That it's shorter than ARRÊT by one letter might be the reason.

Cover of Collected Poems of Robinson Jeffers

Cover of Collected Poems of Robinson Jeffers

A wonderful solstice gift from my hubby arrived the other day... Jeffers has been a poetic hero of mine since I read Hurt Hawks as a teenager. (That's been a minute!) His ferocious, uncompromising of nature and humanity is still electrifying to me.

Is anyone else thinking of that movie, Wag the Dog today? You know, the one where a politician ponders starting a war to distract from a looming scandal....

I'll bet the files are still on somebody's desk, waiting to be released.πŸ™„

Thanks, but I've got a solid team I've worked with before. I'm very fortunate.

Woke up this morning feeling... kind of empty nester. The Relic is out of my hands for a while, like a son who's gone off to college. I won't see him again until he comes back from Beta Reader U with a month's worth of reeking laundry to take care of. πŸ˜†

I've absolutely loved writing The Relic -- allegory/magical realism. A relic dismissed as false begins to bestow magical powers on a disgraced gay monk when he chooses to treat it as real. Big themes like belief, power, deceit, and of course, love.

Sent it off to beta readers today. Whew!

The Devil has a new torment:

He was also an opposing voice when the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were canceled at last year's Pride at Dodger Stadium. He felt they were mocking his religion. He also failed to mention that they tended the sick during the AIDS crisis. I wonder how much compassion he showed the dying then...

One of my all-time favorite fantasy writers, and this series in particular. Decades later, a few friends and I still make reference to those stories, which have a cherished place on my bookshelf. Such an original storyteller. Creatures of Light and Darkness is another favorite.

They are not subject to anyone's belief or opinion. They weren't invented by any human religion, and there is no way to avoid them. I like that a lot.

Whatever your path, I wish you happy celebrations, and fulfillment.

I realize not everyone follows these turning points to our year as I do, but for me it's cleansing to celebrate them as they shape our year.

Yesterday was my 25th anniversary of finding sobriety. I've received so many gifts in the rooms of AA, among them learning again how sacred stories are.

NineStar Press. I have a couple of titles with them. They're good to work with.

JMS Books has been around a long time. I've never worked with them, but some of my friends are exclusively there.

I've heard good things about Pride Publishing in the UK, too.
