I once went to summer camp at a small music college. The college had such a high population of gay students that the joke slogan for the place was "gay by May or your money back" (this being the late 80s, when I don't think it was as common to come out before college).

Oh yeah, I remember that guy and not at all fondly.
Lots of people affectionately call Shostakovich shosty in classical music circles. That guy didn’t know what he was talking about.
As for other gay composers pre-wwii, possibly Schubert and Handel, almost certainly Ravel. Some folks theorize that Chopin may have been bi. Nadia Boulanger and Ethel Smyth.
Maybe they'll have a gender buy back program and everyone can get a little extra cash!
Same. Especially since I grew up close to a couple of military installations.
I got their voicemail, so hopefully that means people are calling.
Trump is making increasingly unhinged threats against Iran, threatening to "end a civilization". Call your Senators and your Reps, I don't care who they are, and demand that they put a stop to the war and remove Trump from power. Do it today, do it tomorrow, do it every day until this ends.

Researchers at Stanford University modeled how many people could die or be disabled in 25 years if vaccines for polio, measles, rubella or diphtheria were no longer available.
We decided to illustrate it.
I said this in replies elsewhere, but I want to say it loudly here.
Anything other than a fullthroated affirmation of birthright citizenship in this country by SCOTUS is an act of treason. It is grounds for immediate impeachment. It is a violation of every oath they have made.

The Olin in MA? The students there take all their liberal arts courses at the college I work at, so I have met a whole bunch of Olin students over the years. They've all seemed really nice.
Olivia Waite wrote a trilogy of sapphic historical romance that were excellent. It starts with The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics. Julie Anne Long's Palace of Rogues series is amazing.

This is not the Dems' first run at this. Some of them, most notably, Sen. Warren, have been trying to do this for years.
Same. I'm thus quite happy that the college I now work at explicitly bans faculty and staff from dating students (we don't have graduate programs).
This is pretty horrifying. Let's call our Congressfolk and demand that they fix this.
Yes! He really did get twins right (I'm a twin myself).
This, this is what I keep thinking every time I hear about the things AI can do.
The Democrats (with one Republican in each chamber) put forth a War Powers resolution regarding Iran. It was voted down, the vast majority of nay votes coming from Republicans. So they need to do more, but they aren't doing nothing.
I've also seen a lot of all or nothing thinking. If a law or action does a bunch of good but is not perfect or doesn't achieve everything, it's worthless.
The organ I play on my campus is in 1/4 comma meantone. It even has stacked black keys for the d-sharp/e-flat and g-sharp/a-flat. Renaissance music sounds so cool on it.
Cook in the Navy during WWII, then worked for the railroad. Organist in the village church. Horn player and paralegal pre-WWII, then a sniper in the Polish army, then forced factory and farm labor as a POW, then various blue collar jobs in the US, including in a dye works. (Yes, I had 3 grandpas.)

Maybe not Coraline, given the author of the source material.
I realize I am an outlier, but watermelon.
I go to my public library regularly, and the parking lot is always nigh on full.
Russian composer Alexander Scriabin died of a shaving cut in 1915. Austrian composer Alban Berg died of a insect bite in 1935.
