"If we allow politicians to rig elections, then we will be giving them carte blanche to do anything they want. No politician should ever hold that power."

The UCP said they would respect the findings of the independent Boundaries Commission ... until they didn't like the results.
Now, they're ignoring the experts, who consulted with thousands of Albertans, to push through a map that would steal your vote and rig the election.
Five alarm fire for democracy in Canada.
Not just Alberta.
The whole country.
Not hyperbole. When we take away effective representation, we no longer have a real claim to being a liberal democracy. If Alberta gets away with this, other provinces will follow.
Today, Danielle Smith and the UCP caucus unveiled plans to rig the next election:
A new motion indicates the UCP's plans to manipulate the election maps for the next election in their favour, and without any requirement to consult the public.
This has never been done in Canadian history. /1
This is a major line being crossed by Alberta's UCP government. Throwing out the work of an independent boundaries committee is authoritarian and extremely anti-democratic.
There is a reason that we do not have MLAs decide on electoral boundaries. Tossing out the Electoral Boundaries Commission and replacing it with a UCP-dominated committee is not just a bad idea. It is really bad for democracy. Ask the US, ask Hungary. This is not normal!
They are literally making it up as they go along. When they don't like the outcome, the Smith government rigs the process.
It's a worrisome pattern for those who care about procedural fairness and institutional forebearance.
You know, real conservatives.
The UCP govt is rejecting the electoral map proposed 3 weeks ago.
A govt motion that could come as soon as this morning outlines the new process which will be overseen by a UCP-led committee, will not allow for public input, and grow the number of MLAs from 87 to 91

Hi Brian Jean 👋
PIPELINE. This is another count for your factsheet.
Bill 29, introduced today, is another attempt by Danielle Smith and the UCP to further privatize health care in Alberta and create a two-tier system, where some people can skip the line for diagnostic services while others are left waiting as the public system continues to struggle.
What a beautiful message on Easter Sunday. I'm sure leaders will pray over him.

I loved Stephen Lewis. What an inspiration as a Canadian.
Fun fact:
More people voted in the 2024 Alberta NDP leadership race than in the 2026 federal NDP race.
Horrible

We now know why the UCP changed the ethics rules two days after Danielle Smith flew to Saudi Arabia.
Albertans are paying more and getting less... except for Danielle Smith.
Our federal membership is a choice now, since last May’s provincial convention. Some of us chose to stay (for now) and others chose not to. We leave it to the members to decide their federal affiliation.
From the main Zocalo square (you should also visit the presidential palace on the square; Diego Rivera’s murals are breathtaking and part of a very complex and interesting colonial history) there were guided tour buses. But again this was 17 years ago. Mine was an English tour.
My experience taking a sightseeing trip to Teotihuacan was life-changing. The pyramids are fascinating. At the time in 2009, I was told archeologists do not know the builders of them. It’s a pre-Aztec civilization. It makes the history of Mexico so fascinating.
