Uthor Batein Dwarves pride themselves in quality craftsmanship. They’re generally isolationist, value tradition (not necessarily in a bad way) and cling to past glory. In Karzen, Dwarves strive to grow, became great traders and entrepreneurs, they produce the greatest opera singers on the continent.

In Surfpunk, 🔹EVRESS🔹 is a magical, renewable energy source which can be harnessed to power technology and even cast spells.

It has become the most coveted resource and is only found in the ruins of the Fallen World. 🌴

Disagreements within king Uthor’s own family regarding his neutrality stance in a series of deadly wars just north led to this schism in Dwarven society. The expats still revered Uthor for his past accomplishments and named their new kingdom Uthor’s Legacy (Karzen). #worldbuilding #dnd

Playing D&D tonight 😁 thought I might share a bit more about Esdras. Our two Dwarf kingdoms are a few hundred miles apart. Dissident Dwarves left Uthor Batein long ago and founded Uthor Karzen in a mountain range much closer to the Human settlements and to the Elven Kingdom.

We recently prototyped a system for randomly occuring challenges in our levels in Surfpunk. As players progress in challenges, the gauge fills up and the reward spawns from the trapdoor. What challenge would you propose? Now taking suggestions.

Deserts are also an interesting barrier. Staying on the road is safer but makes it impossible to stay hidden from onlookers. Marshes, same thing. Roads become the bottlenecks in those places.

Yes, bandits is an example. In my campaigns, players wanted to cross points of passage (pass or bridge for instance) unnoticed by authorities. Bottlenecks made sure that players faced scenes that I prepare with said authorities, or faced skill encounters like climbing a mountain or crossing a river.

Nothing so dramatic (tho I love the idea 🤔), it was an evolutionary process to improve travel distances, create travel bottlenecks between regions and improve the political plausibility.

Every time I started a new arc I made a few improvements. The worldbuilding became more robust too.

Behold, the World of Esdras!

The longest-running homebrew world I ever ran as a DM. And because I’m a professionally biased #gamedev, it has gone through a never ending iteration process. See how it looked in 2014 😂

Yeah Arcane is preeeetty good.

@spillzndoodles.bsky.social and I headed a League of Legends Story project and watching the series just made me so nostalgic of that prod. Such a cool universe.❤️

Ah dude, I feel you.

This industry can be hard and gut-wrenching. I like to think it’s worth it.

From the inkarnate community on Reddit: Marble Island - Wizard Tower Explore this post and more from the inkarnate community

How about this one? www.reddit.com/r/inkarnate/...

It's pinned in my battlemaps folder.
3 stories high tower at the back of a small fort. Stairwells could have tall windows/arrowholes where running enemies are visible.

Never did an encounter on it yet, but planning to :)

Something I often do for #battlemaps and #fantasymaps in my games is adapting something inspiring that someone shares instead of creating from scratch.

For instance my city of Protidia needed to be quite big, so I started from this great map from Wisened_Cascadian on #inkarnate and modded. #dnd

How come irl I have the diy skills and resourcefulness of a common rock, yet as a kid I could finish this game with oven mittens on?

Throwback to the year 2000.

Heroes of Might & Magic 3 will always remind me of symphonic metal like Therion and Nightwish because I had found out that the game’s bgm were mp3s in the game data, so I could substitute in my fav mp3s by naming them exactly like the game’s 😁🤘

Device was an astrolabe and the whole palace was built by ancient astronomy-themed wizards (boss was an admirer of them - a copy-cat even). They would use the device as a focus for celestial spells like causing an eclipse, etc. What the device needed is to absorb a bit of arcane energy to function.

The Boss Room of the last #dungeon I ran in #dnd. It's the central tower of a large palace (so all roads led to it). The device in the center hung from the ceiling, accumulating charges for each level of spell that was cast during combat, sending a meteor down every 10 charges.
