Computer Says Maybe | AI in Gaza: Live from Mexico City This episode contains some descriptions of torture methods, automated human targeting by machines, and psychological warfare throughoutLast week Alix hosted a live show in Mexico City right after R...

This was a difficult, but necessary listen esp in light of the escalations this week. Appreciate the analysis from @docmattmoudi.bsky.social @marwasf.bsky.social and @alixdunn.com's team for not shying away from what we need to face.

Last week we hosted a live show on AI and warfare, going deep on the use of AI in Gaza, and it's now live on our Computer Says Maybe feed.

Exceptional group of guests: @marwasf.bsky.social, @docmattmoudi.bsky.social, Karen Palacio (aka kardaver), and Wanda Muñoz.

Essential if difficult listening.

Given Germany's panic over Palestine solidarity, it's clear what clothing the Berlinale will deem "not compatible with the liberal democratic basic order."

(Yup, this is a real rule: www.kbb.eu/en/hausordnung – and yup, artists are striking: filmworkersforpalestine.org#strikeberlin...)

Heart shattering to learn an Israeli drone has targeted and assassinated Mahmoud Almadhoun, one of the founders and chefs behind the Gaza Soup Kitchen.

What started as four pots and essential ingredients in Bait Lahia had grown into a remarkable effort to feed 3,000 people daily.

How Italy became an unexpected spyware hub Italy is home to six major spyware vendors and one supplier, with many smaller and harder-to-track enterprises emerging all the time, experts say.

“Although much attention is given to sophisticated, zero-click spyware developed by companies like Israel’s NSO Group, the Italian spyware marketplace has been able to operate relatively under the radar by specializing in cheaper tools.”

Impunity breeds more crime. Fourteen months of non-stop mass slaughter, shielded and supported by western powers, had unleashed Israel’s genocidal mania on full display. Good luck reigning back this monster.

Lessons from the Arab region for UN cybercrime convention The UN cybercrime convention will allow governments across the Arab region and worldwide to use cybercrime laws to violate human rights.

Cybercrime laws across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are being weaponized to stifle dissent + crush freedoms – going beyond combating real crimes. The new @UN Cybercrime treaty could legitimize these abuses.

Hamra, Beirut where last night’s Israeli strike took place hours before the ceasefire. Looks like it hit a currency exchange shop.

Many displaced families in the commercial neighborhood have already packed up to return to southern Lebanon and Beirut southern suburbs.

People are returning in the thousands to their villages in Lebanon.

Land is not just property: It envelopes memory, community and identity.

In this unstable region, the concept of home transcends space and time.

It is existential. Personal. Political.

The answer is ready of course: “Israel has the right to defend itself”

Our lives have been a one long intractable war interrupted by short intervals of ceasefires and not the other way around. We will never know peace until liberation from Israel‘s oppression and domination.

I hope the ceasefire in Lebanon holds. But there will be no peace as long as Israel maintains this ludicrous right to preemptively attack sovereign states if it wishes so.

Ceasefire went into effect. So many feelings but first and foremost: tired. People are tired. Thousands of cars heading south from displacement to check on their homes. #Lebanon

Imagine losing 50 to 100 members of your community every day for over a year. How can one grasp the scale of killing and loss of life in Gaza? Beyond the murdered are the injured, missing, amputated, disabled, elderly, children, and pregnant—imagine the unimaginable suffering they endure daily.

Yesterday, Al Jazeera journalist Hossam Shabat was injured in an Israeli double tap strike on a home in Gaza, where he had rushed to report on the first airstrike.

Shabat says he was deliberately targeted in the second airstrike, and he has reason to believe so.

There must be accountability for the depraved, illegal destruction of this hospital.
