In recognition of the fact that conversion therapy is not evidence based and thus, not only does not work, but in fact causes harm, conversion therapy in Illinois has been banned for more than a decade.
Instead of helping children and youth, research into conversion therapy practices shows that they are strongly linked to depression, trauma, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and suicide completion.
who are forced to undergo so-called conversion therapy in the misguided belief that it will somehow “cure” them of a queer sexual orientation or gender identity. The United Nations has classified conversion therapy as torture.
The Illinois Collaboration on Youth condemns yesterday's Supreme Court decision in Chiles v Salazar, which will result at best to the harm and detriment of, and at worst to the death of LGBTQ+ children and youth...

Celebrating Women's History Month
“Women's History Month is personal for me. It's about the Black women who raised me, the mentors who believed in me, and the women I'm privileged to work alongside every day at ICOY. The ones showing up for youth even when no one shows up for them. The ones turning trauma into hope with everything they have. In my work, I've learned that my own well-being is tied to the well-being of the women around me. We rise together or not at all. This month, I see you. I honor you. I'm grateful to be in community with you 🖤” - Chanel Dotson, Senior Manager of Prevention & Intervention
“Women's history month is a time to recognize those that have paved the way, are continuing the work, and shaping future leaders and ICOY aids these efforts by providing a nurturing work environment that makes women feel supported, empowered and emboldened.” - Denail Timms, Director of Operations
"To me, women's history month honors the struggle and sacrifice of the women before me. For example, my grandmother wasn’t allowed to work after she got married nor could she get her own bank account. Many of the struggles for equality are more recent than we often realize. Black women have been a crucial part of both the feminist and civil rights movements. Their leadership and contributions have helped push the movement forward and broadened the vision of what equality should look like. Women’s History Month is a time of celebration but also of deep reflection and encourages us to recognize where gender inequality still persists." - Autumn Cavalco, Manager of Communications & Outreach
March is Women's History Month! During this time, ICOY honors the legacy of the women who made us. We invited our staff to take some time to reflect on what Women's History Month means to them as it relates to their work and identity. Read what they had to say below!

This February, we wanted to take some time to spotlight Black excellence at ICOY by inviting staff to reflect on their identities and the meaning of Black History Month. Check out what they had to say in the post above!
Honoring & Celebrating Black History Month!
“In a social and political climate where power is hoarded, equity is debated, and voices are continually tested, Black history and the work of many great black leaders has taught me that leadership does not require permission, humanity does not require explanation, and excellence does not require justification. The systems we build, the decisions we steward, and the outcomes we deliver speak louder than rhetoric. Our legacy speaks for itself.” - Sarah Daniels, Chief of Staff
"Being Black is about embracing a total experience: the joy and the pain, the struggle and the triumph, the community and the individuality. The concept of 'community' often runs deep. There’s a shared understanding, a non-verbal communication, and a sense of looking out for one another. Working at ICOY gives me the responsibility of carrying the torch of Legends before me who lift others up. I will always be proud to represent!" - Chanel Dotson, Senior Manager of Prevention & Intervention
Happy Black History Month! Here at ICOY, we do our best to celebrate and uplift all of the contributions the Black community makes to our culture, society, and world year-round.
Senior Director of Capacity Building Initiatives Randi Slack & Senior Manager of Capacity Building Initiatives Rachel Monroe (pictured) will be taking the lead on this exciting new project! For more information, check out our blog post: lnkd.in/gzTccEzs
The Intact Family Recovery Center of Excellence (IFR CoE) is designed to promote high-quality, consistent implementation of the IFR model while helping jurisdictions improve outcomes for families impacted by substance use and child welfare involvement.
This program, known as Intact Family Recovery (IFR), has helped keep families together across the state and served as a model for similar programs across the United States.
Over the course of nearly a decade, ICOY has worked with its partners to establish and pioneer a revolutionary type of intact family services that serves parents recovering from substance use challenges.
Announcing the launch of the intact family recovery center of excellence!
We are so thrilled to announce the launch of a brand new project here at ICOY: the Intact Family Recovery Center of Excellence!
