Medical research is being decimated. It’s has flatlined and now half of 2025 and 1/3 of 2015-2024 average. Future generations will suffer dearly because of delayed and missing treatments and cures.

1/3. And this is one more reason the war goes on in some form — people close to Trump are making money from it.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

I've always loved your Marlowe Monday posts. She will be missed.

Text, with "political" highlighted in red to indicate removal: I. Protecting Scientific Processes Scientific integrity fosters "honest scientific investigation, open discussion, refined understanding, and a firm commitment to evidence" (OSTP 2010). It also enables consideration and documentation of differing scientific opinions. Practices that support scientific integrity may include peer review and open science. Science, and public trust in science, thrives in an environment that prevents political interference and inappropriate influence from impacting scientific data and analyses and their use in decision making. It is the policy of HHS to: 1. Prohibit political interference or other inappropriate influence in the design, proposal, conduct, review, management, evaluation, communication about, and use of scientific activities and scientific information. Prohibit inappropriate restrictions on resources and capacity that limit and reduce the availability of science and scientific products (e.g., manuscripts for scientific journals, presentations for workshops, conferences, and symposia) outside of normal budgetary or priority-setting processes or without scientific, legal, or security justification. 3. Require that leadership and management ensure that covered individuals engaged in scientific activities can conduct their work objectively, free from political interference or other inappropriate influence, and free from retaliation.
HHS just published an update to its Scientific Integrity Policy. Notably, it has removed the concept of political interference, and no longer calls it out as something specifically to be prevented.

NEW: A new pre-print study offers the first causal evidence that outsourcing reasoning tasks to AI can rapidly erode users' independent performance AND their will to persist despite difficulty.
"People’s persistence drops... they’re also not willing to try without AI.”

Y'all need to get the fuck off Substack.
The casting is fantastic! Luffy could have easily crossed over into ridiculousness but Godoy gets it just right.
If you're not looking for it, you won't find it.
Trump is in a very weak position, and a terrorist incident would be a desperate move. But it will work if we sleepwalk, look away, and let it happen. (14/17)
Whom else does Trump openly admire? Orbán. And right at this very moment Orbán is carrying out a false flag terrorist incident to stay in power. Facing elections he is bound to lose, he has claimed to have foiled a terrorist plot. (10/17)
Again, please resist the urge to dismiss this scenario. In Trump’s world this is absolutely normal politics. The 1999 terrorist attack that brought Putin to power was a false flag. The Russian secret services bombed apartment buildings and killed Russians. (9/17)
Now think two steps ahead. Iran does not have to do anything. Trump and his accomplices could themselves stage an incident inside the US and blame Iran. The American war crimes would make the false flag seem plausible. (8/17)
Again, if that seems odd to you, you are already inside the scenario, making it more likely. Trump is an admirer of Putin. This is exactly how Putin came to power: a terrorist attack in Russia that could be blamed on Muslims. (7/17)
Then Trump can shift the focus from a lost war abroad to a crisis at home, and try to shift the armed forces to US cities. (5/17)
So thinking one step ahead. The purpose of the new war crimes is likely to induce Iran to carry out a terrorist attack inside the United States. (4/17)
Why is Trump so enthusiastic about destroying Iranian civilian infrastructure? It won’t win the war. It is likely for another reason: to provoke an Iranian response that Trump can use for his own purposes. (2/17)
Given Trump’s Easter threats to carry out new war crimes in Iran, we should think one or two steps ahead about a coup attempt connected to the war. And then deter it. (1/17)
More than 350 Palestinian children remain imprisoned by Israel on Children’s Day.
Palestinian rights groups say children face systematic violations, including violent arrests, isolation and detention without charge.

Supply churn: The US military plans to commit nearly its entire inventory of JASSM-ER cruise missiles to the Iran war, drawing them from stockpiles in other regions. The order to pull the $1.5 million weapon from Pacific stockpiles was issued at the end of March. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
This seems... bad.
This is very very big. Like a big deal and massive cuts. These can’t even be seen as budgetary since you don’t get much savings in the context of trillions budget. They want the US out of R&D out of science research.
Amazing. Trump now says he needs to build the 90,000 sq ft ballroom because it will protect the massive military bunker he's building underground beneath it. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/u...
Trump's budget's revenue projections not only appear to ignore the Supreme Court ruling invalidating many of the tariffs--they exceed CBO's tariff projections made *before the SCOTUS decision.*
Not just implausible but also a sign they may not back off on tariffs anytime soon.
Crazy things Pete Hegseth did YESTERDAY alone:
1) Fired head of the Army
2) Changed rules to allow military personnel to carry personal weapons on bases
3) Fired head of the Chaplain Corps
4) NBC reports he blocked promotions of a dozen Black or female officers
All further evidence for my column:
Another one of those what-if-it-happened-in-another-country moments:
The president is suing the government for $100 million dollars for searching his home for the classified documents he stole, and the attorney who represented him on those charges is currently leading the Justice Department.
This might seem kinda petty in the grand scheme of things
but this is the White House using high gas prices as an excuse for MORE giveaways to oil & gas co's.
Pls leave a quick comment- it can just be "I don't think this place should be drilled."

"Maybe the plan is to normalize theft, getting the public used to watching the president dole out taxpayer money to his supporters so that we’ll hardly notice when he hands himself almost a quarter billion dollars."
