I don't think it was resolved well at all, but characters can have more than one arc. Luke had an arc in the original trilogy, so was it wrong to include him in the sequels? For that matter, he had an arc in A New Hope. That doesn't mean including him in Empire Strikes Back was a mistake.

I get the sentiment here, but the thing to consider is that of the two options, Kylo Ren is a character, with traits, an interesting backstory, and an arc that goes somewhere. John Boyega got robbed and did his best with deeply shitty writing, but Finn is simply not as interesting.
