"Are you on social media? Do not delete your account. Are you off social media? Do not get an account. But if you post you do not sin, and if a person with no social media joins, she does not sin. Yet those who post will experience distress in this life, and I would spare you that."⚓️🕯️

This is an excellent rundown of what I was getting at on the Vergecast this week - there just isn’t some competitive market that will generate better experiences for people, and there’s virtually no regulation, so instead we’re going to get real weird litigation forever. America, basically

Title-Poem
I have become an orchid
washed in on the salt white beach.
Memory,
what can I make of it now that might please you-this life, already wasted and still strewn with miracles?

It is the anniversary of the My Lai massacre today. I'd say that even more than most years, it's important to remember what happened.

And the role Hugh Thompson, an active serviceman, played in both stopping and publicising it. Despite enormous military, political and public pressure to stay quiet.

Facts. And if you really want to turn it up to 11, have them add a little creamy jalapeño sauce. *chef’s kiss*

The Case for War, by Someone Whose Kids Won’t Die Fighting in It “The next days will be decisive. The best course for the United States is to spell out clearly to Iran what the paths of escalation — and de-escala...

"As someone whose kids won’t die fighting in the war, it’s important that you understand the flimsy, morally bankrupt justifications for war, and why it’s vital for you to throw more of your children's lives at this one."

If "AI" was being built, used, and planned for in responsible ways--the way a civilization designed to enhance human thriving would do--then a lot more people would be enthusiastic about its potential. But the people in charge of defining what AI will be are the fucking worst short-term scumbags.

There is not this seething horde of bigots that needs to be checked by the Ivy-educated Good People.

In fact, many of those Good People have prejudices deeper and sharper than anyone, and will burn society to the ground to express them

I Am Pam Bondi’s Shiny Gold Cross Necklace In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was “accessorize.” I am equal parts holy relic and regional pageant tiara. I...

"I am forged of divine gold sourced from the sacred hills of Medjugorje. I was purchased at a Miami-Dade jewelry store that is really a front for a Medicare fraud scheme. As God intended."

A newsletter from the vapid hypocrite Congress Man John Moolenar, sent the Monday after CBP agents murdered Alex Pretti on the streets of Minneapolis, begins "I believe every life has value and deserves protection." And go on to offer a one-question survey about . . . abortion.

My response: "What a timely survey, Congressman John Moolenaar! As it happens, I'm very right-to-life. I think you should definitely look into the abortion your president's operatives performed on Alex Pretti on the streets of Minneapolis Saturday. I mean, he definitely had a heartbeat and seemed perfectly viable until they threw him down on the pavement and shot him in the back a dozen times. I think he had a right to life. What do YOU think?"

"they don't deserve our fear" is a profound thing to say imo & I'm grateful for it

distrust yes caution yes. fear God maybe (proverbs 9:10 though I have long-winded thoughts about the fear of God). these men terrorizing citizens may be a lot of things but they don't know the first thing about God
