The locality flowed through Cur’s mind. The machines both mobile and sedentary, the disembodied systems flowing across chips and wires, the souls desperately holding their shapes against the forces of entropy and ennui. Her ears picked up sounds through steel, concrete, and the din of conversation. The chirps and warbles of bots and bugs. The whir of engines and the screaming of one annoying woman with more muscle than sense. Cur didn’t even bother listening to her; she was just another waveform in the spectrum with only binary import—was she speaking, or not? When she stopped, Cur would start listening.
