🧬 What does the public think about genomic newborn screening (gNBS)?
A study by Peters and colleagues used discrete choice surveys to explore the Australian public preferences, values, and priorities of the Australian public about the value and implementation of genomic NBS.
While the move has been welcomed by many, it also raises important questions about consent, privacy, and how to manage information about adult-onset conditions.
Genomics is going mainstream—what do you think about sequencing at birth?
#Genomics #PublicHealth #NHS #NewbornScreening #HealthPolicy
Building on the Generation Study, the NHS announced plans to offer whole-genome sequencing to all babies born in England within the 10 years. With a £650 million investment, the initiative aims to identify hundreds of rare genetic conditions at birth, enabling earlier diagnoses & tailored treatment.
Well done Emily on a fantastic publication highlighting the diverse roles of genetic counsellors - we look forward to seeing more great work as you continue through your PhD journey!
