Academics ignore procedure and mandates all the time. They fudge due dates, ignore deadlines, pretend to forget rules. And so when I see them complying in advance with non-laws, it tells me something really gross about them.

I find this a lot in people’s explanations of why public philosophy is important eg “the public is stupid and need us to teach them cRiTiCaL tHiNkInG” is so deeply insulting. Stop talking down, you’re not as smart as you think you are. Can’t we think *together* instead or just provide *space*???
