over the last 7 years I've gained so much knowledge about things I wish I never had to think about.

one of the panelists tried to tackle it by framing the question as an "assumption," even though there's a decade's worth of research telling us it happens all the time. anyway, we never found out what will make NS magically different than everywhere else lol
I've been thinking, too, a better comparator for NS is probably West Virginia. Like, how has fracking been there 👀
This is concerning. I lived in BC. We had mostly small earthquakes with the occasional larger one. Houses didn’t have basements. Materials were used to limit structural damage. We don’t do that here. Buildings will suffer structural damage insurance will not cover.
The idea Booker is shouting confidently is that the candidates cannot fail—only be failed by ungrateful, shortsighted voters.
That’s uh…not gonna win over many already disillusioned people.
Earthquakes aren't tolerable redux.
Real consequences should matter.
No reward.
Cognitive dissonance required.
Earthquakes aren't tolerable.
BC isn't NS
Not a consultation.
Fracking is dangerous.
So, I don't "live post" anything. Instead, I sporadically outburst. Anyway, I've collected my sporadic outbursts about this afternoon's online NS fracking session in a short thread.
It wasn't great.
I didn't. But they opened the Q&A with one of my questions, which created a long pause: "what happens when the water is poisoned?" lol
no, it's from the presentation, but i just posted about that:
ha ha ha someone asked what's tolerable for earthquakes, and the guy is like, "well I'm not a seismic expert. maybe the low 2s" 🤷
and, the UK decided against fracking because of population density. Nova Scotia is very population dense! 🤦
holy eff.
I initially showed up just to be an extra body, but then used the time to bombard the Q&A with concerns while I was also working 😬
Another take-away from this NS fracking session is that this panel is looking at fracking as an abstract project. People and the environment are just researchable data points. So, from this perspective, the real-life negative effects on people or the environment aren't actual problems. It's gross.
There is no potential "reward" for Nova Scotians that's worth this risk.
Honestly, it's like the people in this fracking session can't hear themselves. They've talked about: poisoned water, drought, earthquake risk, and risk to health. Why would we do this? There were very good reasons for the fracking ban. It's like we've lost our minds.
omg. this guy just said they're going to try and get the eartquake risk to a "tolerable level" wtaf.
They keep using British Columbia as a comparison 🙄 BC is 925,186 km2 and NS is 55,284 km2.
It's all bs. Everyone involved in this should be deeply ashamed.
Just so everyone's aware, the NS gov. fracking sessions are not consultation. Even at this online session with over 100 people in attendance, the chat is disabled. It's talking heads providing bs about fracking. I guarantee they won't approve my submitted questions.
What an absolute embarrassment.
Since the NS gov is doing fracking info sessions this week, its important to remember that we're the 2nd smallest & the 2nd most densely populated province, which means everywhere is your backyard. We'll all experience the negative consequences.
Anyway, here's some light reading from Texas.
For real, the NS gov. is either extremely stupid or incredibly cruel. Most likely both. They killed central tourist info centres & decimated culture and heritage. What a bunch of fools, but not a ship of fools because Bluenose funding was also cut.
Dear Premier, Tourism jobs are REAL JOBS. Stop conflating your misogyny with reality.
