We went to Colson Whitehead’s free event in Berlin. There are times when #WalletOnAChain man comes along out of politeness and burning love for yours truly. Tonight he was nodding along like a plastic dachshund. It was a good night, we should have bought books. Bought Korean cheesy chicken instead.

I hope more people focus on the import of this turnout last year. Not least bc standing up to bigotry can itself be a rallying cry.

They’ve been kind about the deadline, which helps a lot. Thank you.

I’ve been translating postcards from Theresienstadt to Berlin, one of my most heartbreaking jobs. Inmates managed to get a lot of love, concern and requests for food packages into very few lines. Often the senders were dead or transferred to Auschwitz by the time the cards were postmarked.

I’m glad the Buchenwald committees brought it to our attention by asking him not to attend their ceremony.

I’m using today to continue fuming about Wolfram Weimer’s dumb Taufschein comment, stemming from a (willful?) misreading of Heinrich Heine:

“It’s not my duty as Mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. It’s the same as if you bought a cow or a refrigerator, and then asked me where you’re going to put them.” – Miguel Anxo Fernandez Lores, long time Mayor of Pontevedra, Spain

Remember, don’t buy a cow, or a car, and expect your city to give you someplace to park it. #UrbanTruth

I love it when Germans say “supi” instead of “super”. Not just because it sounds a bit like “soupy”, though that’s a big factor. I think it’s also because it’s unabashedly cute and wholesome. I like to say it too, in the knowledge that it annoys some people.

So I’m constantly pushing down envy when they talk about holidays, restaurants, homes, even their fucking gardens, for fuck’s sake. I wouldn’t want a garden even if I could afford one!
