Looking at your work for #DrawingAugust again, your use of colour is complex and subtle yet with some fabulous contrasts, complements and juxtapositions. Such balanced composition too - working A5 and A6 must be challenging 👍😎

Fabulous 🥰
A pleasure James - your style is unique. Haven’t found mine yet. I’m learning so much on this varied Foundation & have encountered some great tutors, but I’m now ready to focus on/follow the pull and tug of certain materials and ideas.
And, what next after the course… gosh I wish I was younger ✨
Lovely to see your work again this year James - like glimpses into a harmonious parallel world.
Sliding in on the final day of #drawingaugust with some dear little dead 🐝 and 🦋 I have found here and there and collected (but not killed). It’s been super seeing everyone’s work again 🥰💕🌻
*productive, that should be
#augustdrawing in clay. First time sculpture - after an intense and production (and fun) week at West Dean college. Additive method, from a live model.
Im loving it and the lie of the South Downs is so appealing and full of shapes and marks

Catching up a little for #drawingaugust
I’m currently on a Sculpture summer school at West Dean College - here are some more South Downs sketches to inform some landscape sculpture experiments…

Your clever use of line, colour and composition always makes me look closer and keeps my eye moving around the image 😎

I’m making a drawing a day in August.
Each one is from a remembered moment seen or experienced on the day. Sometimes I've worked from a photo or sketch as a prompt but often it’s a sensation or visual quality that provides the starting point.
Thanks again, there were colour thumbnails in between and I’d love to try going bigger, but it was a first proper attempt at acrylics and landscapes. Am loving my foundation course, probably much more so, 40 years later 😂
Thank you too - I’ve been learning so much in my foundation year😎
Thank you, they became acrylics on board - here’s one of them which became an abstract.
Hello James! Fabulous work as always!
Oops I blew it already!
Chaos here, am moving my expanding art kit out of dining room into a big shed atm. I’m really learning the necessity of a dedicated space but with a daughter just moved home we needed the dining room back. Excuses, excuses, I’ll get back into #drawingaugust soon. From June👇
A sketch from last weekend. Watching a cormorant trying to catch an eel.
A reminder that #DrawingAugust starts today. You don't have to draw every day & it can just be a quick sketch. Just whatever you can manage. Post with the hashtag #DrawingAugust #DrawingAugust2025

Coffee and sketching on the riverbank.
Heard kingfishers but didn't actually see one. Heron gracefully glided by just as I was finishing.
Happy August all!⛱️🌈🌞
Thank you for following 🧡 !
The hay has just been cut.
A quick sketch yesterday looking out over the meadow, watching the birds
Not long until ##DrawingAugust. Who's up for joining in?
Jenny Saville at the National Portrait Gallery, London - fabulous 5 stars. The fleshy-ness of paint and the painty-ness of flesh. Seriously impressive and inspiring 😎
Fabulous work 💕
