“It’s mostly comments I get from the people that do drive in, but it isn’t going to be that significant,” Kaufman admitted. “People won't come in, or they’ll wait until they are coming [to Manhattan] to see a show or do something else. I had a couple of people who said they went to see the doctor and figured they’d come down and get pickles. They’re not going to do the one trip, they’re going to combine their trips. There's less traffic, I agree, but is it worth it?”

More evidence supporting the theory that one reason business owners overestimate the number of customers who drive is because the only customers who complain to them about about traffic and parking are drivers.

Canal Street. I never thought it could be so clear on a weekday or really ever. Congestion pricing works.

California High Speed Rail costs about 1.5x per km than international high speed rail equivalents. But both highways and transit projects in general cost 2-3x more per km than peer countries. There is nothing exceptional about CAHSR's cost issues that merits immediate cancellation.

Excellent results. Nice work by @nyc-dot.bsky.social. Lots of folks in city government doing very good work despite [motions to everything].

well that’s certainly promising — thank you! frequencies like that basically necessitate electrification.

with emus, the Coaster has the opportunity to be like a SoCal version CalTrain, and the Surfliner can play regional compliment to the “express” CAHSR that will run on the dedicated inland route

missing LOSSAN corridor is a gut punch — combined with the NIMBYfication of the del mar tunnel, this feels like the nails in the coffin for an electrified coaster and surfliner….

Have been told “we’re good” from the pro-congestion pricing side of things. Expect the program to begin this weekend. 🎉

The Surfliner is the most-ridden Amtrak route outside of the Northeast - despite closing for months every winter because the tracks are falling into the ocean. Time to treat it like America's #2 train and build and electrify the San Clemente and Del Mar tunnels (and shore up the tracks until then)!

It’s official: I’m running for Mayor of New York City — because we need to Rebuild NYC.

Rebuild NYC is a mandate for one million homes — because either we bring down the cost of housing, or we continue to lose New Yorkers. And I don’t know about you, but I’m not leaving.
