Shovel ice and snow early and often.
Use one 12-ounce cup of salt for 10 sidewalk squares or for a 20-foot driveway.
After storm events, sweep up excess salt for reuse.

cut up strawberries, kiwis and pineapples in plastic cups with plastic lids sitting on a counter for sale.

The next time you buy groceries, consider how many single-use plastics you could avoid if you bought in bulk. Plastic packaging is the largest market for plastic and the largest source of plastic waste. Buying in bulk means more value for your wallet and a sustainable lifestyle. #PlasticFreeJuly

A salt crisis is looming for U.S. rivers The biggest source of salty freshwater in D.C. and other major northern inland cities is an overapplication of road salt to thaw winter ice, which runs off into rivers or the ground.
