News I'm hearing from across universities is disastrous. The sector has been falling apart for months, but the process is now continuously speeding up. Outside a small handful of institutions, HE as we've known it has basically zero future.

About half the people employed by a university in the UK are not academics, and *everybody* is busy all year round: there are no long dreamy summer vacations with nothing to do
Yesterday in Parliament I was proud to back the bid for St Neots to be the #UKTownOfCulture2028.
And some people that should know better (Jisc 👀😬😅)
Just on my way back from Digifest which was great but it made me think how much I miss the BLA conferences!
People really do need to stop reacting to library mailing lists with emojis if the mailing lists can't stop sending these on to everyone. Come back people not knowing how to unsubscribe- all is forgiven!
Birmingham Library in golden splendour
Birmingham buildings and sculptures in a morning golden light
Surely can’t be a year since I was last here? Birmingham for #Digifest2026 V glad I have finally learned to go from Marylebone and not Euston.
I enjoy: “Janet turned on disappearing messages” swiftly followed by “Mike turned off disappearing messages” repeat endlessly…
Liz Truss waiting patiently by her phone for Reform to ring, not realising it's actually a penguin biscuit
There's no turning back the clock.
The First - Vecna is coming to Dead by Daylight on January 27.
The battles fought. The pain endured. All of it leads back to him.

Why are so many non-Library folk so clueless about the cyberattack on a national institution, 2yrs after the event? Are Libraries so boring that the media just aren't interested? Or was the BL so embarrassed it limited media coverage?
Still got two batches of sloe gin to do for Christmas! Bumper year 😄
A bottle of ruby red damson gin with a small tot in a glass next to it
My day- damson gin now bottled 🍷😁
That’s good to know- thank you! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
How was the hunger games? I keep seeing the adverts for it and very tempted!
Just wish I could persuade my local supermarkets to stock it!
Every week is sherry week for me 😅

You would assume that anything sensitive held on such a database will be restricted to those who need to access it, but the truth is that, somewhere up the line, an IT person in a basement with a degree in an unrelated field will have admin control over absolutely everything because they know Excel.
On a concrete floor lies dead a larger hornet with a smaller wasp to give size comparison. Both met their end at the hands of bees protecting the hive.
Bees 1-0 Hornet
A big clump of bees at the edge of wall/eaves
At Parents’ house. Their bees, normally buzzing around, have formed a protective barrier as a hornet is trying to invade the hive. #SaidInBestDavidAttenborough #LoveNature
Academia may not give you job security, flexibility, or wealth, but it will let you unexpectedly connect to eduroam in foreign cities
A model cat with tabby markings of light oranges and browns, with piercing blue eyes. It’s sat outside a patio door on a chequered mat and staring directly at the camera. Its whiskers are pretty magnificent too.
This beautiful cat keeps visiting my garden. Look at those blue eyes 😍
It looks like you’re trying to find a creative marketing angle for your disappointing NSS results. Would you like me to start?
Some toilet door graffiti at the Bill Murray reading “Kitson’s a fucking genius”. Read before the poster at the venue just before a Kitson gig.

The smallest sliver of light at the top of a very large wall of lock
20mins and just about at the bottom
Now all you can see is the inside wall of the lock
Hanging onto my amaretto harder 😂
A hand holding out a glass of amaretto at the top (?) of lock on the river Danube
Going further down into the lock you can see mostly a wall and a small crack of light at the top
Entering the largest lock in the Danube…..
Every non-librarian who gets upset about libraries discarding books should be given a project where their college has decided that they want one of the floors of the library and they have to clear it out; project length: 3 months, project budget: $0
