Stumbled upon my June 2002 OPM roundup of upcoming comic book PS2 games. Crazy how many were canceled—including THQ's announcement that anchored the story!
"The Call" was only a working title for the Marvel comic about NYPD and FDNY. THQ's game would have had to change its name to The Call of Duty.

Go easy on him, guys. The Master Rapper has obviously fallen on some hard times. I find it admirable he still loves Fruity Pebbles in a major way.

(Context for non-Americans: This commercial was EVERYWHERE on after-school television in the late ‘80s.)
It all makes too much sense not to be true.
That recent? 😀
Side note, while writing Circus Electrique is on my mind: The game came out in September 2022, probably about the time the third Sonic movie (late 2003) was finishing up its script.
Probably just coincidence, but…
Love this! The Victorian slang book was essential reference when I wrote Circus Electrique for @zenstudios.bsky.social.
Look slippery and blew the brass now for it, you fopdoodles!

Always nice to hear people read beyond the demo disc! 😀
Interesting critique. We ran a Penny Arcade comic in OPM every month for years. It was basically like placing a column or monthly minifeature. Never really designed to fit with a story specifically. We just liked throwing it in there because we were fans. 😀
Were there any chazzums?
And now I’m remembering the moment it dawned on me how it’s actually pronounced. Also NES related.
Secondary memory: I knew the word “chaos,” but I had never seen it spelled out (to my knowledge). So NG2’s subtitle will forever be pronounced as “The Dark Sword of Chey-ohs.”
I only ever played NG2 when it was new, and I just remember being amazed that I could beat it in a weekend rental. ‘Cause I played a lot of the original, and I’ve still never beaten the last level.
I hear people say NG2 is hard—and it very well may be—but being beatable is my lasting memory of it.
No surprise coming from me, but 3D absolutely elevated Spider-Man from 2D puzzle/platformers and out-of-character beat-em-ups to one of gaming’s most straight-up fun characters to play as. Not until Neversoft came along was videogame Spider-Man a true web-slinger, and that’s only evolved ever since.
😉
In the early ‘10s I was obsessed with having all Marvel game entries on @giantbomb.com have a complete list of characters. That’s how I learned that they completely misidentified “Emperor”. giantbomb.com/wiki/Charact...
I’m not the world’s biggest Surfer expert, but the thing it’s based on is pretty easy to identify.
Nothing. They took some enemies he’s had for bosses, threw in Mister Sinister for some reason, and then had him blast cosmic energy at rubber duckies.
I just saw it and it was super fun. At least cinema ended on an up note.
Sounds like my kind of podcast. You have a new subscriber!
I love this!
I feel like we should have like 10 new Buck Rogers games already (went public domain in 2024). Still time to have something decent for Flash Gordon in time for 2030.
“Mario, the hero of the story (maybe).”
Bleak, indeed.
On @whimsicalphil.bsky.social's last episode, the @p1podcast.com proves to be the best video game and C-PAP machine podcast on the internet. Cheers to us born in the mid 1970's!
3-star review for Devil May Cry 2 from Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, March 2003
You stole my answer! 😀 I distinctly remember simply circle-strafing as I shot at the final boss to beat the game.
Heh... just found my old review! archive.org/details/offi...
Butter believe it.
It's a BTS BTS BTS.
Super Mario Bros. absolutely reinvented what Pitfall! and Pac-Man Land did before it.
Jealous! When AoA line came out I was unemployed and couldn’t justify it at all. But I love that era so much.
LOL… I think mine knew them all but Dazzler…and Kitty, I guess. 😀
Get 'em to do some DLC! 😀
Is this your work, @chunwah.bsky.social? 😀
Was it really conceptually approved just four months before release?!
