How much is Trump's latest reality show costing us?
Indiana is spending hundreds of millions of new state dollars to subsidize private school tuition for the wealthiest families — even as it cuts off public preschool access for thousands of 4-year-olds from low-income families who need it most.

Some interesting new education items in the state budget:
1) The State Board of Education would only have to meet once per year.
2) Governors' Workforce Cabinet is repealed.

K-12 tuition support increases 2% each year, after accounting for the inclusion of the $160M for curricular fees into the funding formula.
Senate Republicans are releasing their budget bill this morning. Probably the biggest headline from K-12 funding is that their budget does not expand private school vouchers to universal status and reduces percentage of funding for virtual schools from 85% to 70% of foundation.
Message to immigrants: Hey, don't pay taxes.
This is the best they've got, everybody. Little signs. Here's your resistance.
Putin has to be thrilled with Trump and Vance today. This is a must watch. Disgraceful.
The Senate has passed SB 287, a bill that would make school boards a partisan office elected in the primary. The bill passed 26-20, with a good number of Republicans joining all of the Democrats to oppose the bill.
I really appreciate @lmchervinsky.bsky.social's thoughts in today's post for her Substack Imperfect Union. As someone who works full time to protect public education and to give our teachers a voice in government, I will never give up the ship.
To find out what your local school could expect in funding increases, check the formula run here: www.indianahouserepublicans.com/clientupload...

"According to detectives, each time Shockley sought mental health resources from the school, her father would deny her access to the resources.
Mr. Shockley did not believe in mental health treatment and did not take his daughter's condition seriously, police wrote."
This comes as Attorney General Todd Rokita says that he will seek legal action against schools that do not comply with federal immigration enforcement. 3/3
Among other things, the bill would require public schools to report unlawfully present students, non-English dominant students and other immigrant-related items to the IDOE. 2/3
Just when it looked like anti-immigration legislation might not be moving this legislative session, HB 1531 has been added to the Judiciary Committee to be heard right at the bill deadline to stay alive. 1/3
There's a bill, HB 1390, that will allow the BMV to sell blackout license plates. Finally something I can support.
A House committee is hearing a bill to require school board candidates to run in primaries and declare a political party. A few conservative school board members from Fishers are complaining about the current election process, yet got elected anyway. So not following the logic.
A joint convention of the House and Senate have certified the election of Mike Braun as governor and Micah Beckwith as lieutenant governor. Their swearing-in will take place on Monday at the Hilbert Circle Theater.
Sen. Mishler says the quiet part out loud of cutting 200k poor people of their health coverage through Medicaid - it's to pay for private school voucher expansion for the wealthiest 10% of Hoosiers.
