While #Shadow was on eaglet duty, one of his charges decided to go exploring. He thought that was cool. It took #Jackie some time to warm to the idea. In the end, both chicks returned to Jackie’s soft, warm brood patch.

Having fledged 3 days before, #JBS24 returned to the tower nest, Mom waiting with open wings & fresh fish. And the fish kept coming all day. It was such a lovely homecoming that JBS24 stayed the night.

#Jackie&Shadow’s morning was somewhat disrupted by the ravens coming too close for comfort. They coordinated their plan & easily chased off the nuisances. The 2-week-old eaglets remained safe, sound & content.

JBS24 took that big leap off the tower, having not “branched” to the tower struts in preparation. S/he landed on the ground ~ not uncommon for fledglings ~ so that will be the first adventure. Mom & Dad are keeping watch.

In the last day, #Jackie&Shadow protected their 9- & 10-day old chicks from snow, a Cooper’s Hawk, ravens, & hunger. The chicks woke to a beautiful dawn serenade, got 4 feedings, & enjoyed ample cuddles all before noon.

At 11 weeks old, JBS24 is in fledge watch stage. While getting some good air and flapping those beautiful wings, JBS24 has not yet “branched” to the tower. I’m in no rush for 24 to fledge. This eaglet is a joy to watch.

In San Jose, Monty’s wee hour visits no longer startle Hartley, but this one may have bought him more than he bargained for. With Hartley hunkered down out of the rain, Monty was on egg duty for some 9-1/2 hours.

In a cuteness overload segment, #BigBear chicks 1 and 2 sat with their talons folded and beaks up, ready for feesh, which was expertly and equally distributed by dad #Shadow. They were perfect little, adorable angels.

As Jackie fed the eaglets their 4th breakfast, Shadow seemed to think it was his turn to parent. He sidled onto the nest & eased himself onto the eaglets in mid bite. Jackie left him to savor his time with #1 & #2.
