How should content creators adapt their #SEO strategies to align with Google's AI overviews in 2025?
The key is content that can't be easily summarized! Original research, surveys, infographics, image/video-rich pages, expert tips - all helpful and unique!

AI-driven search is dicing queries into multiple sub-questions, nicknamed "query fan-out". It's not just about optimizing for AI snippets anymore. Details in this great post by Ann Smarty @seosmarty.bsky.social

Answer Optimization (spoiler: OVER-OPTIMIZATION in this case) and "chunking" in practice (spoiler: IT WORKS!) You know that AI Mode highlights the part it pulls as an answer, right?
Well, here's the paragraph that made it reference a page for my query "Best local SEO experts..." Kinda stupid, no?

Generative AI is no longer a new, trending toy everyone is excited about. Itโs part of our lives.
We all use one or more AI platforms (like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claudia) for problem-solving and productivity.

When people are questioning an increase in Google searches year over year...
GOOGLE and CHATGPT BOTH picked Reddit (arguably the angriest place) as the major data source.
Reddit now controls all the narrative around brands & that narrative is unlikely to be kind or positive.
Good time to provide Reddit marketing services (which we do ๐๐ at @smartymarketing.bsky.social )
I watched that interview but I don't think it sounded that straightforward... (1) they were not going to make AI Mode a default tab (yet) and (2) they are going to integrate its better performing features into the main tab (which sounded like they were going to improve existing AI Overviews)...
AND YET, according to our research *almost 90% of businesses* are not doing anything on Reddit, citing a lack of understanding of the platform as the main reason (which is totally understandable! I am lucky to have a team that has been heavily into Reddit marketing for 12+ years.)
It ranks for 1.8 MILLION queries containing โreviewsโ, according to Semrush (most of these are branded) *directly influencing buying decisions at the very bottom of the funnel*
REDDIT IS THE TOP CITED SOURCE!!!
- #6 top ranking website in Google search WORLDWIDE => visibility in AI mode and Gemini, obviously.
- #2 cited site in ChatGPT (right after Wikipedia) ๐
I mean, it's actually a quote. They literally have "PageRank" in the email subject.. Let's ask them?
๐ค
In case you missed it: Gemini (and consequently AI Mode) IS BEING TRAINED by Google's traditional search signals (cough, *PageRank*)
Talk about the death of link building or SEO ๐

OK, SEO is changing but not as dramatically as someone wants you to believe, and not for the first time in its history too.
Some tactics we've been talking about for YEARS become unavoidable, and it's better to change priorities now (or better yesterday) to remain findable

Prove me wrong ๐
Google's AI Mode brings nothing essentially new:
โ
Traffic has been a vanity metric for years
โ
"Similarity" and semantic indexing have been used by Google for years
โ
Organic findability hasn't been easy to predict for years
โ
Branding (becoming an entity) has been key for years
