I mean, he did get that humble, simple life he was after.

Shake it Out- Florence & the Machine
I wish it was enough to tell Congress "Fight for our democracy and to keep our nation from being disassembled" and I didn't have to write a letter about each specific example that includes.
It takes pastors and other kinds of teachers to make that stay true, and also to remind people that it's worth doing. It's worth investing in. Ordinary people having knowledge of their own faith tradition is essential to reclaiming our sanity.
All of these politicians act like the Christian faith or the Bible support them.
The silver lining is that they are very, very uneducated about these things and the average regular church attender could beat them in any kind of theology competition.
Hegseth doesn't know the difference between Ezekiel and Pulp Fiction.
Mike Johnson doesn't know what just war theory actually argues or he wouldn't apply to our attacks on Iran.
The president apparently can't tell the difference between Jesus and a physician.
Vance has less education on bring Catholic than a 7yo receiving their first communion.
Today in church at the offering we talked about one very simple reason to support local churches and their pastors:
Otherwise theology in your town is shaped by powerful men who know less than the average church goer and certainly less than the average pastor.
I imagine that lasting them like a week, and then Gandalf gets that look, like he really wants to make someone explode, and Radagast is all, "You know what? I bet there's someone somewhere else that needs your help. I've kept you here long enough."
I'm pretty sure Gandalf and Radagast would be closer friends except that Radagast is always afraid that Gandalf's fireworks are going to set the forest on fire so they don't really have much to do when they just "hang out."
I think most people would be much better off with a little less grammar and a little more background on how knowledge is made, who does the work of translation, how they make choices. No matter how much you do yourself, you are always doing it in a context and need to grasp that.

What is the average number of mental break downs for one of your employees per year?
Thanks!
Best I could do. His name is Banjo. He likes long walks in the woods and rolling in the snow. He is the one the local assisted living residents ask to come for visits. Today he got in trouble for eating an entire jar of peanut butter that was left on the counter.
I don't know who that is, but you can have this one!
So, I'm really sorry about that, because I too would love an easy road map from this moment to the next better thing.
This is a public service announcement:
There is no one single way empires fall.
Saying so does not make sense out of this political moment.
Sometimes a republic becomes an empire and that causes the elites to thrive for centuries longer.

Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet (if you feel like it):
I'm not here to interrogate people who defend themselves. I'm here to call bs on leaders who choose to wage a war to cover something they failed to solve by waging peace, then act like Thomas Aquinas said it was fine.
Invaders do have to reach. Instigators have to justify why they resorted to war when they had the choice to solve a problem differently. And in my country, when our leaders start new wars, they cite theories they don't understand to prop up their failure of leadership and imagination.
For the incoming self-defense arguments:
I'm not actually saying that people shouldn't defend themselves when they find war waged upon them.
The invaded don't need to reach for some utopian justification to stay alive.
Just War Theory is what happens when theologians task their imagination with asking: What would a just war look like, if there was one?
It doesn't describe any real world event.
More than that, you can choose to use your imagination to create a world with no war. Why not do that instead?
For realz. Now with the just war talk he's going to have Aquinas experts on his back.
The POTUS: Nah man, I thought that was what doctors wore.
Peanut gallery: Oh yes. How reasonable and excusable.
Meanwhile, my 8yo: "In what way are ICE operations any different from the Fugitive Slave Act in Harriet Tubman's time? I thought we dealt with this!"
Ian McKellan.
all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant
Every time Vance cites anything from the history of Christianity it's this way. It's like the old days when America got Bible lessons from the Duck Dynasty guys, but with less camo.
