The BC government is making changes to its Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) funding program that will leave thousands of autistic children with reduced individual therapy funding and thousands more autistic and disabled children with no individual funding at all.
Very good chance of an outage in Sooke tonight. A bunch of brownouts already happening and the storm is just getting started. Could feel its power a few hours ago, actually which was a bit of an ominous sign.
Charge your things!
There is a risk of a pretty strong wind storm impacting the I-5 corridor from Weed, California north to the US/BC border on Christmas Eve.
Wind gusts to 115 km/h appear possible (but are on the high end of what's possible) with the strongest winds likely in W Oregon.

70 - 90 km/h gusts later this afternoon until this afternoon evening in Sooke. Rain continues throughout the day. Stay safe and dry out there!
Another wind storm headed for Sooke today, 90+ km/h gusts. This one look like it may verify a bit better than yesterdays did (although it still turned out to be a decent wind storm!). Also looks quite rainy!
Icon seems to have calmed itself down a bit, suggesting *some* of the wind from the previous run or two may be an anomaly. However, Icon is the most accurate model for Sooke for wind gusts, and it still shows 80-100km/h gusts today starting between now and 7am.
Heavy wind starting early tomorrow morning in Sooke with gusts 80 to 100+ km per hour sustained over 12+ hours . Potential for prolonged power outages. Charge those devices!

A low pressure system is forecast to park off the Oregon Coast today bringing fairly consistent rain. Maybe a break in showers tomorrow before rain resumes Fri night with showers continuing through the weekend.

Heading back down... calmer between storms.
Another significant wind event Thursday starting between 4 PM and 7 PM and lasting into the early hours of the morning.
Wind storm tonight in Sooke already started. Tie down your things and hope you only lose power while you’re sleeping :)
Decent chance power outage today in Sooke, keep all your stuff charged, looks to already be picking up.
Big wind now arriving in Sooke. Charge your devices!
Aaaand power is out.
Some 80km gusts this morning and monsoon-like rain! I didn’t catch the crazy wind gusts on video, but it woke me up out of a dead sleep and shook my house!
Tomorrow looks quite windy for the greater Sooke area, 70-80km/h gusts. Wonder if we will see our first wind warning of the season?
Good amount of rain happening on the south island right now. Power just flickered. How’s everyone else holding up?
Anyone feeling weird about how unseasonably warm it is in Greater Victoria right now? Fish haven’t even began to come up the river for spawning season yet and it’s still t-shirt and shorts weather each afternoon. Crazy to think this could be a new normal for October.
Starting to feel excited for storm season coming up in the Pacific Northwest. Who’s with me? 😁
Deleted my Twitter/X accounts today, including my Sooke Weather one. I won't be going back there, so I hope everyone who was meant to follow me is already here :)
Severe thunderstorm Advisory in place for Sooke and many other parts of Vancouver Island. Details available on the Alertable app.

Map showing earthquakes of the past year (and also showing the tectonic plates) in/near southwest British Columbia. 1245 earthquakes have been located here, mostly offshore and most are small, but there have been 6 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or larger.
Back to the earthquakes
the recent felt earthquakes in southwest British Columbia are not so unusual. 1245 earthquakes (mostly offshore or smaller) have occurred in this region during the past year. The latest felt earthquakes don't tell us that a larger earthquake is more likely (or less likely) ⚒️🧪
Wind warning posted for our local area. Hi-Rez models show some 70 km gusts for this afternoon and we’re definitely seeing a pick up out here. Keep an eye out for fallen branches and debris, just in case the storm ends up stronger than anticipated.
Well, I suppose this is about right.
Interesting. Models have calmed right down for our Monday storm. Good news I guess. I’m seeing Our Lady Peace tomorrow night in Victoria!
Looking like a powerful wind storm is on its way for Monday-Tuesday. Models showing prolonged periods of over 100Km/h gusts for Sooke. Will provide updates as we approach.
