The setting is a non-binding polite request for somebody not to train on your publicly posted data. If it were opt-in, I think it would always be ignored (as is the current status quo) whereas maybe this specific signal has a chance of being respected by some?
Agree with the sentiment tho.
Everyone has a to-do list, but nobody has a to-don't list
Astro is great because it allows you to scale in complexity according to your without overloading you with stuff to adhere to out of the gate. For example: need React components? It can do that, but you don't NEED to use React components.
…But that also seems dumb if you already have the original react code? I have a similar task ahead of me at some point so interested in where you get to on this.
Ha, using it recently I thought the same thing. IDK what the H2D files are (they’re binary files) but I feel like Singlefile would make a good capture format if you’re ripping things out of the browser to parse down to Figma.
The html.to.design plugin is good for quick and dirty stuff, but not good enough for this in my experience. Lots of manual editing required, but still pretty helpful and worth knowing about.
#Figma cool kids: I have a React UI library to migrate to Figma *as components*. Too many components to do by hand. I will pay for reliable premium tools. Migrate means (ideally) layer names, styles, props and/or tokens imported too. It's a one-time import job. What are my options?
Private data / allowlist viewing aside (which is a good solution and important) Why do you want to opt out from this for publically posted images?
...Or don't, I'm not the boss of you!
Hey, if you're into computer stuff try it out and use Claude Code to make a small thing that you couldn't be bothered to make otherwise. Even if you detest these companies it's worth understanding how the tech works and what it can do... And like any good dealer the first $5 of API credits are free!
You forgot: "Bro this tech is super dangerous and could like, end the world, which would be crazy.... crazy cool tho am I right? Want to invest?"
...But for the folks on the non-positively-impacted side of the spectrum, yeah "AI" as a brand is in a pretty sore spot right now.
These negative effects aren't felt equally though which is kind of my point. Right now the tech industry has been completely transformed by Claude Code over the last year in a way that other fields have not been. If your only interaction with "AI" is terrible slop content, its easy to hate that.
If Bluesky had added a “create feed from search query” button to the search interface that does EXACTLY this I feel like nobody would be up in arms about it at all.
I really wonder if “AI” as a brand has become tainted among a sect of the population to the point where if they had just built this into Bluesky’s search feature the same people would have otherwise accepted it.
There's something quite exciting happening with AVIF and progressive rendering.
Some recent patches let you provide custom 'frames' as progressive passes, so you can provide e.g. smaller blurry versions of the full image to use as a progressive pass.

Cover image for "Death of a Software Developer" on isthisanart.substack.com. Dark green-tinted composite of two images: the upper half shows what appears to be a detail of a figurative oil painting, the lower half shows multiple monitors displaying code — looks like Solidity smart contract output and Python terminal errors. The title is set in large white serif type.

I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on this conference.
If you haven't seen their Stacy's Mom parody, it's equally well produced: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANl...
"I have heard a lot about nanotechnology," Councillor Lily Cheng says. She asks if staff have considered using nanotechnology in asphalt.
"I'm not sure that we've considered it, but we're always actively looking and making sure we stay up to date," says staffer.
I've used MacWhisper for transcription before, this seems like a variant of that? There's a lot of these "Whisper wrapper" type apps out there, pretty neat overall?
WHAT YES OH MAN I'LL BE THERE
Can’t wait to have fomo about this event 🥲
You're not wrong, but it's also not the most up-to-date read on the situation.
"If you still want to upgrade despite everything, I'm going to say something I should never say, but I will anyway: you can jailbreak an F-35 just like an iPhone."

Funny, the competition bureau solicited comments on algorithmic pricing last year but ultimately determined not to make any moves.
Sick and tired of these poser-ass range-hood / microwave combo units pretending they are anything but food irradiators.
Horse and anti horse. If they’re in the same pen you get a sort of matter / antimatter reaction.
