All of this!

Also, I am the age I am. So of course this was my ear-worm for the whole next week after the trip to El Segundo (I did not though) m.youtube.com/watch?v=WILy...
Yes. All of LA is really interesting, in that respect. And if you walk, you really feel the changes. Ended up getting an academic book on the historical development of LA neighbourhoods when I got home.
Ah.
That is too pricey an Uber ride. Perhaps next time I will master the rural buses.
This did seem like well heeled wee (commuter? possibly currently gentrifying?) town though. There was a fancy juice shop selling stuff at prices that wouldn’t have been out of place at Erewhon. But also a convenience store & off licence the spoke to a more varied customer base.
Went to one small town, El Segundo, to watch a Harold Lloyd movie in the Old Town Music Hall. Had a great nerdy movie chat with the lady that ran the lovely Gelato shop on Main St. Got a great bagel for lunch. There was an impossibly picturesque water tower. Don’t think my accent impressed anyone.
The escape artists are not convinced by this indoor cat business.
I suspect most people don’t do it to protect the local wildlife. Green logic/behaviour isn’t such a core thing in the US. But once there is a dominant rhetoric that any cat spotted outdoors must be stray or neglected, your wandering cat is at risk of being catnapped by a self-righteous neighbour.
The first time I stayed in a residential area in the US I was puzzled. I saw loads of people walking their dogs, but despite the ideal big gardens, there were no cats. Why didn’t Americans like cats? I now realise that Americans like their cats so much they keep them permanently trapped indoors.
Garners pickled onions are good. Sour and crunchy. Closest to the ones my mum used to make.
The late Donna Hill brought a box of See’s Candies to Pordenone for me one year. I was amused by how many reminded me of Scottish confectionary. Including tge Scotchmallow, which was a bit like a Tunnock’s Teacake rendered in candy form. I had, of course, brought a selection of Tunnock’s for her.
Fly through Dublin. It’s way more chilled and has US customs.
Oh god, I’m sorry. Also, this is exactly why started I flying through Dublin.
Beanbag launch kitty has a pure joy akin to Maru and a fresh diet soda box.
I find Edinburgh is often a lot. Once once summer and the festival season really hits, I avoid the centre. And I used to live and work there. Glasgow has wider streets and a lower density of bodies.
That is a sugar coma.
I do think most people have some movies and TV that they really love though. That often have very personal meaning for them. But that’s better thought about with an audience researcher/cultural historian hat on, not a cinephile/film scholar one. People’s media passions don’t deserve our snobbery.
Quick reminder that the Hippfest at Home will start streaming on Monday and is available for a week. It includes otherwise unavailable titles like SAXOPHONE SUSY and WHITE HEATHER

Travelling in the other direction, it really hits you. The amount of salt is wild. And Scotland is not a low salt culture.
I see you and I raise you.
Absolutely
No arguments here!
This is basically the plot of Kid Millions, but on wheels.
A visit to the ruins of an Iron Age broch or a Viking settlement.
Moment of the night!
I have noticed a recent increase in the ambient level of cats in my feed. This is excellent. Keep it up, everyone.
