Maybe that's a disservice to CEOs. I'm sure they also attend meetings at which no one is eating lunch.
re: companies going all in on AI, I keep thinking about my husband's theory that these CEOs do 2 things at work: write emails & go to lunch. And they think AI will get rid of the emails part of their job.
Congrats to Maria Matienzo. OCLC dropped their suit against her in their ongoing windmill-tilting against Anna's Archive. ๐

the doge teens destroying the general services administration's magnetic tape backups because they think it's like a vhs of aladdin 2: the return of jafar might be the niche thing that kills me
The so-called Department of Government Efficiency: We saved $1M per year by converting 14,000 magnetic tapes (70 year old technology for information storage) to permanent modern digital records

You either die young or you live long enough to see the person who took over a previous position email a listserv to complain about a workflow you passed on to them.

Have decided that to fight back against The Despair I'm going to try growing herbs & vegetables in my tiny urban backyard (for real this time). If you've got any watering solutions that don't involve me getting eaten by 300 mosquitoes every day, let me know!
