Yeah, I know this is trivial in the greater scheme of things. But releasing a book is a rare and special thing, and frankly I'm not sure how many of them I have left, aged warhorse that I am.

I hope to be back in Paris this Fall when THE DISSIDENTS is released there. But thanks to the Orange Shithead, Europe is about to run out of available jet fuel for the foreseeable future & airline travel will be nonexistent.

My last book release in 2020 was ruined by Covid.

I'm so very tired.

Sex, Lies & Videotape is one of my comfort films. And Laura San Giacomo is just smoking in it.

When they started shrinking the comics. Then the cost-cutting move from metal printing plates to plastic ones drove a stake through it.

That dude graduated from Akron U, one of the lowest state universities in Ohio. The MAGA nominee for governor wants to shut it down! To be fair, he won a Fulbright Scholarship, which apparently was wasted on him.

But yes let's blame the comics.

Ballbag.

Not MY house. Dad was a PhD, but only read scientific journals and news magazines. Mom read trashy romance novels and hard-boiled detectives. There was no music at all, except what I brought home as a teenager. Ditto art books.

This dope thinks his upbringing, and only his, was the norm.

"Alongside it were volumes of the various Book of the Month Club selections. The console where the hi-fi lived might have a Reader’s Digest boxed set of LPs called “Music of the World’s Greatest Composers.”

"Those of us of a certain age can remember the middle-class suburban home of the late 1950s & early 1960s. On the coffee table lay a large format book titled “The World’s Most Beautiful Paintings,” or something similar. The bookshelf groaned under the weight of the Encyclopedia Britannica."

Mike Lofgren is a career GOP hack. He's an Akron boy, like me. He worked in various policy jobs for the Republicans for years, during which those policies gutted the "middlebrow class" he now mourns.

How the death of middlebrow culture led to Trump's barbarism - Salon.com All the cool people hated middle-class suburban culture — but it looks a lot better compared to what came next

"Hence the plethora of comic book studies courses at universities today."

Go fuck yourself, you pompous dickhead. Is that middlebrow enough for you?

Book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs, with 'Sold' topping the list The American Library Association says book bans and attempted bans remain at record highs. Efforts to remove titles have become more coordinated and politicized.

I am a banned author.

Stay vigilante. These bastards must be driven back into the sewers.

The hat needs to be on to get the full Oscar effect. His hat always popped off when he ran in the outfield or on the bases, unable to resist the pressure.

Good player. I was a boyhood fan when he was with Cleveland. Traded to the Yanks for a grizzled pitcher who only last a season or two. Grr.

Columbus loses ‘a giant’ with the passing of Laughing Ogre cofounder Gib Bickel – Matter News Comic book writer Paul Jenkins praised the attitude Bickel brought to the shop, cognizant that the Ogre wasn’t just a comic store but ‘the epicenter of an entire community.’

One of the true good guys in comics.

Safe travels, Gib.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

Dark history behind 'Sea Monkeys' that became one of the most popular toys of the 90s There is a dark history behind the creator of the famous Sea Monkeys that we all loved as kids, and it might ruin your childhood.

Not to be a buzzkill, but it's fascinating comics history.

Sea monkeys were "invented" by Harold von Braunhut, who also invented X-ray Specs. He funded much of the Silver Age w/ his ads.

He was also a Nazi and a top leader of the Aryan Nation! Weapons supplier to the KKK, too. Major scumbag.

2/3rds is 67 out of 100 Senators. Even if Dems take the chamber in Nov, it will only be by a couple seats, including that clown Fetterman. In other words, no f-ing way.

Trump isn't being removed. Our only hope is he croaks in office.

Y'all should have learned this in high school civics class.

For the thousandth time, impeaching Trump is NOT removing him from office. He's ALREADY been impeached... twice.

The House impeaches, by a simple majority vote.

Then it goes to the Senate, which can (but is not required to) hold a trial. If 2/3rds of senators vote guilty, Trump would be removed.

My dream car when I was a kid. A doctor (who else?) in my hometown had one. So cool.

One of the most unreliable cars ever made. Total shit. As one commenter in the thread observed, the mechanic is probably in the car following it.

Bookshop.org: Buy books online. Support local bookstores. A better way to buy books online. Every purchase financially supports local independent bookstores.

And I'll make this plea again. Shop at indie bookstores. Boycott fucking Amazon, the worst of the worst, one of the most vile & destructive enterprises that has ever existed.

If you like to shop online use Bookshop.org a consortium of indie booksellers. Just as convenient as Amazon, w/o the evil.
