Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?

This researcher created a fictional illness, and fake studies funded by the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation and University of the Fellowship of the Ring and the Galactic Triad.

LLMs warned people the illness was real.

Chemical or mineral? Everyday or heavy duty? I like Blue Lizard but that's because I'm allergic to chemical sunscreens πŸ˜” I try to use that one only on my body and I've got others for my face

now, i Know that novel writing is a marathon and yet i'm always surprised when it takes me forever to get anywhere

(and it should not! i've done this before with a longer project! but my general fatigue has seeped into both creative work and physical work 😞)

idk guys when i see a lot of similar headlines insisting that editors & authors are all already embracing AI, i don't assume these things are true. i assume there are a lot of very rich people with an unpopular product pushing a particular narrative in my industry!

AI & TRADITIONAL PUBLISHING: A SURVEY

I was curious about how people in traditional publishing are feeling about AI. I would love input from authors, editors, agents, booksellers, translators, narrators, designers and more. Thanks for sharing and participating!

Canadian authors, if you aren't eligible for the US Anthropic lawsuit bc you didn't register US copyright, we have our own class action suit! It doesn't rely on registering copyright and you're included in the class by default πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

The image is a flat-coloured painting featuring a dark skull. The skull is cracked and splitting, and a gilded sword stabs through the skull from head to jaw. Golden thorns pierce through the socket of the eye and the mouth to symbolize the pain being too intense to speak or see. The lines are intricate and gold, and the colours are dark with floral arrangements pushing out of a border.

"It's just a headache."

Migraines are far worse than headaches. They impact vision, feel skull-splittingly painful and make it impossible to function properly. They are debilitating, chronic and can last an awfully long time, even days.

it's always interesting to me how white people will continually dismiss and denigrate the experience of people of other ethnicities, particularly diaspora, by claiming authority and privileging the voices of a few people they know from source countries

the sheer arrogance

It was focused on BNW! Huxley's ideology is actually way less straightforward than he presents in the book (which is actually PRO-eugenics and he reiterated that in BNW Revisited). I spent a lot of time just like 🫠 reading Huxley's essays

Yeah it's honestly a super weird and interesting period. I was mostly focused on Huxley (obv) but I do remember some incriminating lines from Wells' essays. That said, I remember Huxley taking a lot from Wells's World State stuff and Wells disliking his interpretation

Wells miiiiiight not have been satirizing them (full disclosure: I haven't read The Time Machine)

The man came up in my readings for my MA (focused on Aldous Huxley) and he was a big inspiration on Huxley for his anti-democracy thinking

The cadence is just Too French Canadian and it was doubly jarring when listening to the audiobook as the narrator stuck to a continental French accent since it was... Not quite congruent
