Ok, time for a dumb, weird but fun thing...
I knew about this from searching on YT and Instagram daily and finding this other meaning...
Like UBI? Well now you can get it, in the coffee, to go. 🙃
(I'll see myself out)
False choice.
People keep following the Elon narrative.
Look further back.
It never was about replacing everything as an allowance in either guaranteed or universal versions. It's an unconditional floor above zero. People can add whatever work they more freely choose.

Yet another reason for universal basic income.

The Pope denounced the unchecked competition for wealth as "a destructive force, leading to perdition," calling it "irresponsible, immoral, and irrational." This greed, he said, divides humanity and destroys creation.

"Accumulation is not virtuous. Distribution is. Jesus did not accumulate; He multiplied," the Pope recalled, referencing Christ's teachings on not storing up treasures on earth but in heaven.
(10/11)
Additionally from Pope Francis in 2024:
He emphasized that wealth must be shared "not as alms," but "fraternally." He urged the Popular Movements to demand this change, noting that a "perverse view of reality" exalts the accumulation of wealth as a virtue, when in fact, it is a vice.

But it is much closer to a genuine basic income than it is to either a minimum wage or to a means-tested minimum income.
Muchas gracias, Papa Francisco"

Conclusion: Pope Francis’s “salario universal” is not quite an unconditional basic income — nor even a universal “participation income” (that would also accrue to those doing only domestic or voluntary work).
(7/11)
What is then a “universal” remuneration for work? On the most plausible interpretation, a basic amount paid to all workers, including informal workers, the self-employed and those who suddenly find themselves with very little work or no work at all because of circumstances like the lockdown.
(6/11)
Because of the preceding sentence (“Ustedes, trabajadores informales, independientes o de la economía popular, no tienen un salario estable”), it is is fair to interpret “salario” as remuneration for work, but certainly not just waged work.
(5/11)
“Forse è giunto il momento di pensare a una forma di retribuzione universale di base”
And one of them adds “basic” and turns the “salary” into an “income”:
“Vielleicht ist jetzt die richtige Zeit, über ein universales Grundeinkommen nachzudenken”
(4/11)
“Talvez seja a hora de pensar em um salário universal”
“Sans doute est-il temps de penser à un salaire universel”
Two of them add “basic”:
“This may be the time to consider a universal basic wage”
(3/11)
The key sentence, picked as the title on the website and echoed in many reports, says:
“Tal vez sea tiempo de pensar en un salario universal”.
Two of the (presumably unauthorized) translations are literal:

CTV News headline: survey finds nearly half of Canadians live paycheque to paycheque, woman checking bills on phone app
We've seen this same headline for years now.
An advancing civilization should do better for future generations, instead of keeping them stuck.
A truly great man
The basic income group opened on the EH! app. Banner has a basic income now lawn sign, with a tabby cat watching from beside it.
So there's a new Canadian app called, naturally, EH! (eh?).
Yeah, find me there and let's talk basic income!

$50 for "yes"?!
How about, I don't know, "pomegranate" or "floorboard"? What do I get for them?
Makes Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" look simplistic. We're better off if people just have the money. Stop with the weird rules.
Basic income opens the subject of work to wide angle viewing.
The launch of Artemis II got me thinking about some UBI history and how Nixon saw his guaranteed income proposal and the Apollo missions to the Moon as both serving the same objective of showing people that government could actually work for them and accomplish great things. Let's do that with UBI.
Basic income isn't about the end of work. It's about giving people more choice. It enhances your place in your work story.
