MSU faculty join call for Big Ten 'mutual defense compact' against Trump administration - The State News Under the compact, participating institutions would “commit meaningful funding to a shared or distributed defense fund” that would “provide immediate and strategic support to any member institution under direct political or legal infringement," according to the faculty senate's resolution.

Faculty at Michigan State University have become the latest in the Big Ten to urge conference leaders to create a "mutual defense compact" against the Trump administration amid its aggressive campaign to reshape higher education in its image.

Our #standupforhighered rally was just the beginning of larger collective efforts to strengthen worker, teacher, and student power on campus and across institutions!

Speakers from each Union emphasized protecting visa-holders from retaliation, honoring labor rights such as collective bargaining, and using institutional resources to stand up to attacks on our communities.

Today GEU stood with members of @untf-msu.bsky.social, @utsfmsu.bsky.social, undergraduate students, retired faculty, and other community members for our academic freedom, our colleagues, and our students.

Some foreign students fear speaking out as visa cancellations rise International students say they are deleting social media, keeping their views to themselves and staying on campus to avoid being deported.
