They really should. The main problem I hear about the Dev Test Repeat event, is that it is TOO popular, so the venues are usually completely overrun. But I’m sure organising requires a lot of work.

In Copenhagen we have a bi-monthly game play test event called Dev Test Repeat. I'm participating today for the first time and I'm nervous AF. Very experienced gamedevs and many who knows each other well, so I feel very much like an outsider. Hoping for a good experience 😰 #gamedev #indiegame

Today I'll have a different kind of play test session. I'm showing the game to some close friends for the first time. There will be wine. It won't be serious at all. But I'm very nervous. Definitely easier to play test with strangers #indiegame #gamedev #sologamedev

Yea. They're free to believe whatever they want IMO. People generally believe what they want to be true. And knowing that the model now does x times the calculations using y times the energy, and still tells me "You're absolutely right" all day, probably just feels too good.

AI marketers have to claim that we're always in the early days. That's their job. I too remember feeling that this tech might change everything when LLMs first became publicly available. Now, to me, it does feel like we've been in the plateau stage for several years.

Mainly I want to let the players know what the game will be like. Boss "fights" in the full game will be skill checks as well as story and progression gates. Also, hopefully, it will be a fun and challenging encounter, to show off some of the most intense gameplay.

Another play test session today. Learned a lot as always. Turned out that the tester was color blind, which proved to be a real mess when my two main colors in the demo are red and green. It worked out ok, and I was able to assess my ideas for a future colour blind mode #indiegame #gamedev

A tester reported that it wasn't clear to him, what object are actually going through a door. I'm working on some UI to make this more intuitive, with doors now showing object slots. It looks ok I guess, but it also makes the scene look slightly more cluttered. What do you think? #indiegame #gamedev

Thanks 🙏 I think I’m just so used to getting feedback I can act on, that getting negative feedback on stuff that simply cannot be changed just hits differently. That said, rereading it even just a few days later, makes the actionable stuff stand out much clearer. Gonna let it rest a bit more 😆

That wasn’t my intention. He did incredible work. A lot of constructive criticism and stuff I can actually fix. He also touched on a a few points I myself consider the game’s weaknesses. I was just trying to convey that even justified and well formulated criticism can hurt, and that that’s ok.

I got a really rough feedback response from one of my testers. He is THE BEST tester. Sent recording of his entire playthrough + 3-page pdf with feedback. I just don’t think he enjoyed the core gameplay loop. It’s very likely just not his genre, but ouch… this one really hurt #indiegame #gamedev

Very true. I'm a solo indie developer, so I get to pick (and pay for 😭) my own equipment. but I've worked on many projects outside gamedev where bad equipment had major negative effect on my motivation and performance.

A thing I've noticed recently, is how much better I work on my laptop, despite having a complete dual screen, premium keyboard etc. etc. setup. I love being able to work anywhere, any time, and I think it helps me feeling less burned out. #indiegame #gamedev
